I didn't read all these pages but it seems to me that ropeing off an area or putting your stuff in an area but not actually being there does not reserve a spot. There should be no such thing as RESERVING a spot. Being at the game with your stuff and physically being in the spot is what makes it your spot (for that particular game only).

what happens is though, the casual tailgaters end up pissing off the diehard tailgaters.

Then the dieharders need to get up earlier.

No matter what the elitist will tell you, if you arrive first and nothing is set up, the spot is yours for the taking.

we've been in the same spot for about four seasons. it's always the exact same spot, but we set-up next the same people and they keep a spot open for us.

THIS ^^

If I get to my usual spot of 10 years (but it doesn't really matter how many years i've been using it) and there is someone's tent there... I will set up next to them...right next to them. We will party together. This happened to us last year. 6:00 AM we show up and there is a tent in our usual spot. Now im not going to move someone's tent, so we set up next to them.

Now here is where I have the problem...these guys strolled up at 2:00 (7:00 game) with a bar-b-que pit (still in box) and two lawn chairs. We did what we could to include them in our party, but they just didnt seem to be very happy. Needless to say, we never saw them again.

Was this a dick move of us because the tent reserved the spot?? I don't think it was.

Indeed it is, Tigermite. Indeed it is.

Nice resurrection of an April thread.

I'm not reading this whole thread but the times I've been the one to setup the tailgate...I either went roped the damn thing off at 5pm or got there at 6:30 AM and set my shite up and sat my arse out there all day.

Reserving spots doesn't work unless they own the spot VIA parking tag. Get your arse up at 6 AM and start drinking or just find a spot when you show up.

There is alot of LSU people, no use fighting over a patch of dirt with bad grass.

BT,
Tell me if this sounds good:

I set up at 6am on gameday and also hang a sign that says

quote:

I apologize if I took your spot. I'm new to tailgating-setting-upping and meant no harm.

Have a beer on me and please don't beat me up

Ropes, strings, any kind of barriers ARE NOT allowed anywhere around a "your" TG spot...............

Well,
I went ahead and set up a tailgate on Saturday morning about 8am. I knew it was "someone elses" because it was just too good of a spot.

The usual guy comes in a few hours later and starts setting up behind us. I ask him if he typically sets up here and in an indirect way said yes, but the rain made him procrastinate. We helped him set his stuff up and I didnt have to do any head bussin.

Thanks for the advice TR
