we played a decent offensive game against a very good defense last night. Of course we are going to try to run the damn ball, we have a FRESHMAN QB. You are going to have 3 and outs with a new qb at the helm. Get over it, we are going to be conservative until the decision making of both qb's gets much better.
We wore them out all game long and then we blew them off the line in the 4th quarter. Less chance of a turnover running the ball than passing the ball

well this is pointless now, because i won't change anyones mind with what i saw just like no one will change mine
i still think we should let him just play and not worry about the mental lapses because they'll happen no matter what. Countless times he was in third and long situations whether be execution or play calling and to me thats just messes with his head more then 3rd and 3, or even 3rd and 6.

thats right i made up what i saw..yup never had consecutive three and outs, never had negative yardage after the two turnovers, never stalled with questionable calls
its all in my head right..no wonder i'm on this website then.

yea, but we didn't start with run run pass on both those drives
i'm pretty sure crowton has established himself as a fantastic coordinator

also, passing is way safer than running, especially on the road

yeah so by all means we should run, run, run, run and never pass because we're not at home...

nah, but we could continue winning by setting up the pass with run and wearing out defenses so we can do whatever we want in the 4th quarter

yeah because that'll work every time.
how are 3rd and 9's setting up the pass?
yes running sets up the play action, but not on expected passing downs.
we trailed this game until late in the third and with all the offensive opportunities we had it shouldn't of been close in the third. We failed to capitalize on any of the turnovers, whether it was playcalling or execution its still a negative of the game.

we were trailing the game because of an INT.
it's worked a lot under Miles actually, it worked when saban was here too.

teams usually win by playing to their weaknesses

the less offensive production we have because we're trying to ware out the defense as you say, puts more pressure on our defense to create stops. If it puts us in a hole it will force our young quarterback to try and do too much. and if you think throwing on the road is difficult go back and look at the florida game and see what playing from a big hole is like.

yup take last years team and compare it to this years team, same team good observation.

we threw the ball way to much against florida and got away from our gameplan. The Florida game is why a running game is so important.

nah, but most great offenses start with the run. We had a 5th year senior at QB and still won most games by slamming it down teams throats. You want to air it out with a freshman QB on the road, turning the ball over would have really put us in a great position. We won the field position battle and we kept their defense on the field for 35 minutes. we were obviously doing something right offensively since we racked up 363 yards against a very good SEC defense on the road

we threw the ball 5 times in the 4th quarter and ran the ball 20 times. We got 4.15 ypc and 3 of those runs were by a QB and 4 were goalline type situations.
we won the game because we ran the ball so well that they had to respect the run, which opened the deepball to byrd

right because they were tired. i understand that and i'm not talking about the fourth quarter when we had them on their heels.
i'm considering the previous three quarters when it felt more like we were being dominated by their defense. The fact that our defense actually showed up put their defense in very tough situations and it helped a lot, but if we can't establish much offensive consistency what are we going to do against teams that have a better balance.
i highly doubt our defense can continue to play lights out, so our offense has to establish itself early and not wait until the third quarter or fourth quarter to do so.
we just can't continue being a second half team, it might work against bama whose a first half team but it won't work against everybody. we have to find some consistent play from everybody for an entire game.

well we tied the game up in the 3rd quarter, and it was all down hill from there. we like to use playaction, that doesn't really work if the other team isn't respecting the run.

most games are won in the 4th quarter, the gameplan worked. I don't see what the problem is
Posted on 10/19/08 at 4:02 pm to TigerBait1127
the problem was our inconsistency on offense because i highly doubt the game plan was to continue to stall when we had several times to put this game away early.
the problem is we continue to rely on being a second half team instead of playing four quarters.
