Unlike some people, I don't "hate Miles". Just have serious doubts. With the right staff around him, LSU could return to championship status. But I don;t think the team has that staff this year.

replacing Crowton after last year would have been the right move, personally I think he had a 1 year pass to use GC as the scapegoat and he won't get that chance this year.

what are you talking about? the Big 10 was a more recgonized conference back then then the SEC. once again you guys keep trying to downplay his effectiveness at LSU who was at a level of the Ole Misses back then, none of the previous coaches put them where they are today, those coaches like Dinardo were second rate, and Ole Miss and MSU was capable of beating LSU back then.

With a mediocre season, he can still allow Crowton to "find another job" and get a pass for another year IMO.

What bigger stage is there than the NC game?

Who did that, other than the Miles apologists who are overly sensitive?

We were clearly superior to Ole Miss from the beginning of the 1970s to the end of the 1980s. During the '90s, we were about even with them, but that was the worst period of our history and was likely to change as soon as we got any kind of decent coach. It didn't have to be Saban, it just had to be a good coach. And MSU? Check your history. How many times did they beat us in the eight years prior to Saban's arrival? You know, right smack in the middle of the worst period in our history?

I'm not talkin about Michigan State specifically, I'm sayin Big Ten football overall was more recognized back then then the SEC with media hype machine they got because of the Ohio States and Michigans.

and you agreed with me that LSU football in the 90's was at a level of the Ole Misses and MSU's, the coaches coming though LSU then wasn't worth a shite except maybe for Arnsparger who left too soon, and I think he may have been late 80's can't remember.

you said LSU gave him a chance to show his stuff on the big stage, I took that has meaning coaching in the SEC, sorry, misunderstood. LSU found the right coach when they landed him, end of story.

he knew he wasn't going anywhere at Mich State and saw the potential LSU gave him to show his stuff, that's why he had Sexton contact LSU. He wasn't the hot commodity that everyone was constantly speculating about though. As it turned out it was a great hire, but certainly not one that turned a bunch of heads at the time.

true peej, but you'll never know it by the NorthEast Media cock machine hyping them all the time. Today everyone knows the truth about the Slow Ten.

But to answer the question, if he wins another title, I will never call for his job again. I'll probably still criticize certain decisions, but I won't imply he is a bad coach.

and you are right, Saban knew he couldn't compete with Michigan and Ohio State on a regular basis, but saw the diamond in the rough in LSU.

I disagree.
I was in Mich at the time he was at State. There was alot of talk about where he may go.

Turned my head. From the get go I knew great things were coming for LSU.

you and other newcomers should not say shite for at least a year on here only listen, that should be a TD rule here, foolishness always comes out of kids mouths like y'all, y'all sign on here and immediately think you are part of this respected place, then drag it down to your levels. idiot, stop stalkin me anyways, your arse wasn't opened up wide enough the last time I scorched you?

The last time you "scorched" me, the ST guys threw you under the bus, ate your brains for lunch, then shite them out for your kids to frick. However, if you put that much stock into kicking someone's arse on a message board of all places, congrats on getting drunk on that spacebar buddy. You like being an astronaut?

And there are plenty of alters on here from what I've seen. It's impossible, save for a few long timers, to know how long a member has actually been a member here. Or did you not get that memo?

Let's see if you can drag this out for 30. I know you can. I've got faith.

What selective memory some of these guys have. And whats even more amazing is how some are willing to excuse a coach that hasn't been here in over 5 years and doesn't give a shite about LSU (i know it hurts to hear...but Saban doesnt give a shite about LSU) while at the same time crucifying a guy that wears purple and gold every weekend.....alot times for the same exact failures.

Amen, my brother. I could not have said it better myself. While at LSU, Saban was great at turning things around, coaching defense (DBs, particularly) and was a better than average gameday coach (if a little conservative). However, it was incredibly frustrating to watch teams we had no business struggling against (Arky during that time, UK in 2002, Troy 2004 - the Miles haters forget the "Great One" struggled against Troy, too) AND a team that was supposedly well-coached and "disciplined" not show up AT ALL for some of the biggest games of that era:

Florida in 2001 - 44-15

VT in 2002 - 26-8

Auburn in 2002 - 31-7

Bama in 2002 - 31-0

Texas in 2002(3) Cotton Bowl - 35-20 (but it wasn't remotely that close)

UGA in 2004 - 45 - 16

212-66 (and the Cotton Bowl score makes it seem better than it was).

Did I like the guy, personally? No. Did I respect him as a coach? Yes. He is an outstanding college football coach.

Miles had some gaffes, but his GREATEST and WORST moments were in games we barely won or barely lost. The only games even remotely like those 5 shellackings on Miles' resume at LSU were UGA in the SEC-CG, first year, after the Katrina run in 2005, and the bombing that Florida put on us in the Swamp in 2008. The BCS champs Florida gave up their second most points to us (in the Swamp), and our defense (horrible as it was in 2008) was in the same range as Hawaii, Kentucky, FSU, UGA and South Carolina gave up to them that year.

FWIW, I was like every other LSU fan at the end of the Magnolia Meltdown. Conversely, UNLIKE every other LSU fan, I got over it and refuse to continually use it as an attempt to berate a man that I believe honestly wants the best for my team and is working his arse off to do it.

You keep acting like an "adult", and you'll get banned from the Rant.

ETA - It is amazing how the tens of thousands of right things (including huge, difficult right things like kicking Perriloux off the team) are completely ignored in light of a couple of, admittedly huge, mistakes under the most extreme sports-related pressure imaginable.
