Practically takes away your ability to pick up a cheap 5-yd penalty with a hard count or overzealous DL trying to shoot the gap. This needs to be worked on ad nauseum in the Spring and used a couple of times in games situationally. There's too many wrinkles out there to not reintroduce under center snaps, one of them being the ability of the RB or motioning WR/TE to push the QB ahead for a foot and move the chains. We already line up under center for victory formations so this should not be a huge overhaul, just a fine tuned tweak. A good defense will time the hell out of your short yardage shotgun like we saw yesterday if you don't mix things up a bit. I understand Denbrock has a certain tempo and cadence to his shotgun, but it can't overrule logic of situational center snaps, quick counts, hard counts, silent counts etc. on 3rd/4th and inches.

A lot of very good coaches run shotgun in short yardage all the time. But that don't make it right IMHO.

The argument is all these kids come up in shotgun and know nothing else. Well, WTF is practice for?

Other teams run shotgun, but still line up under center on short yardage plays.

Time for us to do it as well. Dumb to not have an under center formation.

JJ Watt tweeted yesterday the the QB sneak is the single hardest play call to stop when the offense only needs to gain one yard.
