Where should he throw it? The defense repeatedly got pressure by rushing a mere 4 DL. You want him to force it into coverage? Check that - you want him to force it into coverage deep in his own territory? When it really mattered, he was adept in escaping the pass rush and turning a bum pass play into a 20+ yard rush.

Seasoned QBs can always throw it away. That is always an option as long as you know where your WRs are if none are open. Also, it's obvious it's not like he doesn't have anyone to throw to every time. It's just as soon as he does see pressure he wants to run it and not look to the pass again which leads to more sacks.

Also UGA blitzed a good bit in the 2nd half when they got some sacks. You have to know as a QB to get rid of the ball quicker in those situations when the team rushes 5 or 6.

And our interceptions went significantly down. Perhaps related to the fact that taking a sack is ultimately more favorable than throwing it up into coverage?
Way more related to the fact he's a run first and only run QB when it comes to any sort of pressure.

I'm not saying I want him forcing throws, I'm just throwing the explanation out there on why we have more sacks with him at QB.

So Jefferson starts escaping the pocket and throwing them away and starts being criticized for not being willing to stand in the pocket and deliver the football in the face of pressure. What is the criticism here? Is the argument that he is holding it too long waiting for an open receiver, or that he's escaping the pocket too quickly?
