How many more times will you change your definition of elite?

"peopleschamp" said Florida was a doormat, before 1992. Not exactly true is it?
Florida had a losing record against LSU until the late '80s and early '90s. They had ONE (now vacated conference) title and that's it. Most of their conference titles came in the same decade under ONE coach. They now have the same amount of NCs as LSU and still fewer conference titles.
Remind me again why Florida is elite and LSU isn't?

You mean like that "elite" program did with Urban Meyer? Do elite programs hire Ron Zook? Do elite programs have losing records to little ole LSU before Spurrier arrived?
He was the hottest College coach in the nation in 2004. He turned down Notre Dame.

Yes. Ron Zook took out LSU's 2003 split NC team at home & held them Offensively scoreless. But besides Zook, Saban's lost to many, Miles, DiNardo, the UAB coach.. I believe he is the first former LSU coach to ever lose to 2 LSU coaches.

This thread is mind-numbingly idiotic. I love how the OP's definition of "elite" is "you know it when you see it."
No, it's a simple qestion, I'll try to make it even more simple:
Do you or anyone else reading, expect the Top Coach in the Nation to be hired by LSU's Joe Alleva? Will the LSU boosters step up & pay the necessary money to make this happen?

Actually, you've all just proven my point that LSU fans are frustrated because you think we have/had an elite program.
Auburn fans have never been so deluded into thinking they have an elite program and are probably much happier people for it.
But I hope we do beat Bama and beat them handily. If we're ever going to be an elite program, we need to beat the best. And not rush the field when we beat a 3-6 team.

You did a piss poor job of proving your "point."

Why does everyone in the SEC hate Florida? Could it be... because they've kicked a lot of arse over the last two decades? They are cocky as hell, but most years they back up their swagger with results. I'm loving seeing them stumble this year but given their sustained success over the last two decades no one in their right mind thinks Florida is about to slide back into mediocrity.

Yes, they accomplomshied this mostly under 1 coach & all under 2 coaches. Not by firing coaches every 3.89 years. Amazing how stability works.
Why are they more elite:
LSU won 1 game against them in the 90's & then stormed the field.
They have more 10 or more winning seasons in the past 20 years, than LSU has in 117 years. Snake bitten LSU fans mark Florida as a loss every single year & have since the very early 90's.
Florida hired a great AD, who has them Competitive in both Foootball & Basketball. Natonal Championship competetive. Florida pumps tons of money into their football program, by boosters who are serious about winning.

LSU will never be able to get a coach like this!

So this is now how elite programs are judged? Florida didn't step up and hire the top coach in the nation when they hired Zook. Neither did Texas when they hired John Mackovic after he went 6-5 at Illinois. Or when they hired McWilliams after he went 7-4 at Texas Tech. Neither did USC when they hired Paul Hackett. Pete Carroll certainly wasn't considered the best coach in the nation when USC hire him.
You guys are hell bent on lowering your own expectations in order to deal with the inevitable decline that's occurring under a mediocre head coach. It's pathetic.

I provided facts and records. You provided cliches and assumptions.

What's piss poor is the all the threads on the rants saying "What if we go 11-1" or "Fire Crowton & Miles now". At least this has been entertaining and a diversion from the usual knee jerk doomsday dbags and sunshine pumpers.

dude give it up. thinking the first team to win 2 crystal footballs is not elite in their own conference over that time span is idiotic. Go look up another topic to flame on. This one has run its course.

I didn't ask for a history lesson, these schools don't hire/fire like LSU.
I asked you if Mighty Joe Alleva & LSU boosters are gonna bring in the Top Coach in the Nation?
Not 1 answer so far..

How is that even relevant? This doesn't change the facts that LSU has experienced more success historically.

Well gee, could they be having more 10-win seasons because teams play more games than they used to? Florida still has five fewer conference titles.
And no, LSU fans don't still mark Florida as a loss every year. Are you kidding me?

Yet they didn't hire the top coach in the country at the times they were hiring. Urban was a hot commodity, but still unproven. Zook was a joke, and his hiring was worse than any hire LSU has made in a decade.

i hardly call floridas pre-tebow performance in the 2000s elite. besides lsu is da best and you all know we gonna come out on top anyway

I agree. I want to see what people really think is going to happen with the new hire.

Horrible justification for a horrible thread.

It was a great 5 year run but we are not on the same level year in and year out as Florida or Bama.
Name one time in the last 20 years when Florida or Bama fans rushed the field because they beat LSU.

mattz1122,
You keep talking about what other schools did year & years ago. I'm asking what people think LSU will do NOW.
