Rain Delays at the Old Box

Those crazy frickers would bring in a helicopter WITH FANS IN THE STANDS to land or hover in the outfield to try and help dry the water....

I'm pretty sure that would not happen today with fans anywhere around.

They wouldn’t do it because they don’t need to anymore. The fields these days drain so well as long as the dirt is covered while it’s raining you can play ball almost as soon as it stops

They did it once: 1986 Regional final against Tulane. It was a National Guard chopper.

Skip was a genius.

The old Box was build in the 30’s and wasn’t designed for drainage like the new stadium

Pretty sure that there were no fans there while this was going on.

I was there. It passed over from the north, then hovered about 10 feet over the outfield sweeping the water to the outfield fences.
