It’s sad that we are in the day of Opting out. Football players are doing just enough for their resume to be drafted rather than looking out for the program and finishing out a full season on a high note.

This has been going on for 3-5 yrs now. Do you think this trend will continue to increase?

How should coaches handle this in their programs?

First , it should henceforth be called what it has always been called , quitting or giving up football. Opt out was a sanitized word for those protecting their health during COVID pandemic.

Nothing coaches can do. To paraphrase Yogi Berra, if they don't want to play you can't stop them.

If someone was going to write you a check for 7-figures would you risk getting injured?

There is really nothing a coach can do. Players these days have more people talking them out of playing than talking them into it. Simple as that.

If you are scared of getting hurt, you should not play football.
Opting out should not be allowed after this year. If they do opt out, pull their scholarship for not upholding their part of the deal for getting the scholarship in the first place

I agree, I think the NCAA should take action into this and pull their scholarship, it’s a waste of money to the university because from my understanding,’the player still is financially supported by the school.

I’m not saying pull everything from them,
But their should at least be a significant amount 50% or 75% scholarship

Maybe they’d think twice for not finishing out the year.

Atleast for the regular season schedule their should be some type of penalty; I can understand if they choose not to play for the Bowl game because of their potential draft status.

That’s why I asked
