Wanted to share some thoughts on how O has approached the philosophy of incorporating the strategy that worked in 2019.

1. Past=! Future--> and that means, the performance and strategy in the past may not work in the future. If y'all recall Dabo's interview in CFP, he clearly mentioned that each and every year, they break down the strategy and rebuild the program on a new strategy. He also mentioned that Bama does it similarly and this ensures that your adversaries do not come prepared for your moves. He said, "we devise a new strategy which revolves around the core strategy, which helps the players adapt to it faster, resulting in less/no confusion on the field".

2. Cheap coordinators != good coordinators. Those of you who invest in stock market may realize that cheap stocks are cheap for a reason. Market rewards a growth-minded comoany with a higher multiple. This is true in football also. If you get cheap coordinators on board, you are likely going to get subpar results. Therefore, to become a quality D1 football team, we need to hire coordinators that are not good but great. They will need to come from programs where they have a "proven record" of being successful. O likes to hire is coordinators based on recommendations. That is not how hiring for a top position works. If you want to work at McKinsey, Amazon, Boston Consulting, etc. you need to take multiple tests, prove you have the rigor to work there. Why can O not understand that his coordinators need to demonstrate that they have the rigor to lead a top notch program, that recommendations are good but should only count 20% towards evaluating a candidate.

3. Recruit and more importantly RETAIN at the top level- there is no debating the fact that top not players play at a higher level. We can all argue about Honey Badger, Jets, etc., but the reality is that we need to have driven individuals on the field who have a mentality to win. LSU does meet this criteria. However, what is more important is to retain that talent. In other words, you have to ensure that they stay in the program for as long as they can and help win games. Believe it or not, experienced players bring a lot more to the table. Alabama is a prime example of this----their folks return back, knowing that fact that they will get drafted should they chose to opt out. Devonta Smith is a prime example and there have been many before him.

I think that at the very least, if we hit these three key points above, we will turn the ship around.

Ok cool. I’ll send this to Woodward. Thanks for the sweet breakdown and new thoughts.

On point 3

We literally have 3 top 5 recruiting classes and brought everyone back on the team from last season. We have a very seasoned veteran group.

So many of our players are not developing at all. See linebackers, safeties, Oline.

Why bother recruiting top OL talent when you can put in a fraction of the effort and sign another 4-5* WR and keep the class ranking up?

It meant bringing back a lot of (talented) seniors and juniors back. We all know that even though Deculus and Tood Harris are seniors, they were not talented enough last season to get drafted. I meant the folks who can get drafted but choose to stay with the program. Prime example is T. White--he knew he could get drafted but stayed back and got a diploma and still got drafted by the Bills. Cannot emphasize how important those players are to the success of your team. They keep the team together in bad times because they have seen it all in their four years.

McKinsey and BCG are not the best examples. They talk in theory about everything but have little to no applied knowledge. I am sure that our OC and DC can talk a lot of “theory” but when it comes to applied knowledge they have little. This is why you hire resumes with experience.
