Old LSU jersey question

Does anyone know about when the first time Mesh nylon jerseys were used by LSU?
Like the ones with the holes that are used today. I ask because my father is looking to purchase "game used" Billy Cannon jersey football card and it is in this style. Not sure if they were around back then.

All of those cards are fake. They may be jerseys but not actual game used jerseys. Some will argue but they are just trying to convince themselves they didnt waste there money.

In all if the pictures the jerseys look like solid cotton, almost like a t-shirt

No one wore them back then.

Pretty sure that was an early '70's thing.

Did LSU ever wear tear-away jerseys? Remember that shite.

The jerseys in the late 50s' were made of a polyester like material . I have a 1957
LSU jersey .Lsu running backs wore tear away jerseys in the late 70s' and stopped in 1981 . Lsu wore the mesh type jerseys in the early 80s 'and stopped using these jerseys at the 1982 orange bowl .

Have a picture of Ronnie Estay sacking Archie Manning for a safety in 1970 and he is wearing a mesh or net jersey as they were referred to. Looked like small honey cones. I have a mesh jersey from 1971 so the mesh thing was definitely early 70s.
Picture of Mike Hillman from 1969 shows him in a cotton jersey so not sure if the mesh jerseys were worn before 1970. Cotton jerseys were nice with shoulder stripes completely around the shoulder, not like they are today, with large block numbers. Striping at the end of the sleeve was also wider. Stripe at the end of the sleeve was first used at the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 1968.

Why would a center wear a tearaway jersey ?

Have a 1971 picture of Tommy Casanova in a mesh jersey. Bert Jones and Paul Lyons in a mesh jersey in 1972. Did they wear them 100% of the time, probably not. Mesh jerseys were probably not worn in cold weather. Did every player wear tearaway, I doubt that either. The cotton jerseys were not as durable as jerseys today. Back in the day, LSU would have a rack of spare jerseys on the sideline to replace jerseys torn during a game. They no longer do that.

Charles Alexander used to wear tearaways that were solid white with no shoulder stripes.

Looks like cotton. I like that long-sleeved jersey look.

In the mid-70's I bought a mesh jersey at the sporting goods store that was in Tiger town, down the hill from the infirmary.

In the picture you posted, the stripes on the pants of the first player are white/purple/white while the stripes on the pants of the other players are purple/white/purple. This proves that sometimes there may be variations to the uniform. Could have been a screw up from the factory, could be from a previous year, could be a pair of practice pants, who knows. While some players may have had worn mesh jerseys for a game, others may not have. From the stands, they all looked the same.
