Has this been discussed? Noticed Charles tried this on a 3rd down Saturday which led to pressure on Burrow and Deculus attempted it on a few 3rd downs in the Auburn game with absolutely no success.

Somebody with more lineman knowledge correct me if I’m wrong but aren’t your tackles supposed to be the best blockers on your O-line? Can’t imagine what they’re seeing in film that makes them want to attempt this as opposed to normal pass protect, especially on a 3rd down passing situation. Just seems like it’s a big risk against elite defensive fronts (I know Bama’s is young and not necessarily “elite” yet, but obviously they’re still very talented).

It’s supposed to be a quick pass, so the idea is to cut the defender at the knees so he can’t bat the ball down at the LOS

It’s on the QB to have a quick clock and know that the pressure is coming after a few seconds

Every Oline, good or bad, does this on some level. It’s a basic function of Oline play.

If they are cut blocking they are expecting the ball to come out quick, like a slant pattern. Joe will hold the ball before throwing into coverage though, so essentially a few of these are coverage sacks.
