Yeah, the AD may have good intentions and be trying to make a good point about how it reflects negatively on several aspects by booing. However,

1. Joe cannot coach fans on how to be fans.
2. He wrote a letter about a problem he has no way to control.
3. He demeans his position by even bringing it up.
4. His own letter to fans is just as insulting and embarrassing as the booing.
5. He doesn't have a right to address it in the first place, has nothing to do with his role at LSU.
6. He runs the risk of losing support for himself, and puts his job at risk if things go south.
7. He gives commentators something to notice and debate in print and on TV by admitting that coaches and school administration take note of the problem.
8. His attention should be focused more on what makes LSU cheer instead of boo.
