I don't know the nuances of these contracts. Not accepting the buyout offer means that he does not plan to coach anywhere else, right? If he takes a settlement, it would be to open himself up for other employment?

Because as it currently sits, the buyout would be paid out over several years and the buyout installments would be reduced by any salary he gets from his next job.

A negotiated settlement for a lower amount would likely remove that offset clause and possibly be a lump sum payment. If BK accepted such a settlement and got a new job, he could make more than he otherwise would have by sitting at home with monthly checks coming from LSU for 6 more years.

They should have never given Kelly a 10 year contract. He made them do it because he knew coming into the SEC he possibly could fail and didn’t want to go to another school
