re: More impressive: Miles in '07 or Saban in '03?

Any NC year is a good year. Both teams were pretty talented. The O3 loss to Florida was embarrassing, the o7 losses were emotional killers.
You guys are splitting hairs.
Saban is a program guy, and he built a great program at LSU. Miles is no where near the program guy Saban is, but perhaps only Mack Brown is as good a program guy as Saban.
Miles is probably not any better or worse a coach than Saban, which is pretty high praise. Both have strengths and weaknesses.
Miles weakness will probably be his inability to make a change at offensive coordinator.

The only positions that may have had more talent than the 06 and 07 teams were the offensive and defensive lines.

I did not say that, only quoted.

2006:
Auburn - We all remember that game's drama L 7-3
Florida - Tebow jump pass and the just beat us L 23-10
2007: as mentioned above we lost twise in TRIPLE OT! by a total of 8 pts
How fricking intellectually dishonest can one be?
How about we phrase it another way -
2006:
Lost on the road to a top 10 team by four points when we were the underdog.
Lost on the road to the National Champions when were the underdog.
2007:
Lost to unranked Kentucky as heavy favorites and the #1 ranked team in the country
Lost to unranked Arkansas, in the last game of the year, as the #1 team in the country, heavy favorites, and in complete control of our on destiny as it concerned the National Championship.

I think the 07 year was more unlikely, due to the schedule verses the talent level. LSU did not have dominant talent in 2007 the way Florida and Alabama did the last two years.

Why do some of you idiots have to bash a NC?
Stating an absolute fact - that we backed into a National Title game - doesn't constitute "bashing."

Agreed, but would add Jim Tressell to the list--pretty good program he's built at tOSU.

I would be more worried about this if he hadn't moved the co-DCs out after '08 & brought in the Chief. If the offense doesn't show great improvement this season (and there's no reason it shouldn't), I look for a new OC in 2011.
IMHO, the Billy Gonzales hire was as much about putting pressure on Crowton to step it up or BG may become the next OC.

this. No one's unhappy with the way it ended up.

I think LSU suffered in 07's OT losses from injuries. In both of those games the team went into the game beat up and got beat up.
This is not to say the 03 NC wasn't totally kick arse.
Hats off to both coaches from bringing us titles.

Nothing on the '03 non-conference schedule even approaches that.
Meh.
The arse hammering we gave a very good Georgia team at the end of the year was more impressive than the VT game. We exposed VT, we destroyed Georgia.
Also, I would argue holding "the greatest offense in college football history" to under 250 yards in the National Title game was more impressive.

I still kind of feel like a Bama fan claiming a championship that wasnt 100% earned, just won by default

I guess I'd lean towards Saban since the program was down when he inherited it. I dont think it was in shambles but it was certainly in worse shape than what Miles inherited.

Tressel - yep. Obviously a great program guy also. There are some others of course, but these guys jump out as guys who turn the whole course of the program around.
About Brown and Saban, I don't think either is really a traditional game day coach, who has a great game plan and/or makes crucial half-time adjustments. These guys win because they arrive at the field each week with the best players/coaches/water boys/weight trainers/etc.
Here's hoping Miles finds the solution to Gary...

UK game was Miles NOT keeping Scott in the second half. The guy was killing UK and Miles left him on thge bench.

Not playing Scott in the 2nd half makes no sense at all. There is no reasoning and no justification of not playing him in the 2nd half.

Yea, listen to the sabanintes. LSU should always shut out every opponent, double them up, at least, in every stat and do this without having to even play the first string.
