This thread annoys the piss out of me, I don't normally consider myself a grammar nazi.. but If he's Unanimous there is absolutely NO NEED to put consensus after that..

It's not a grammar error. It's the distinction given by the award:
Consensus All-Americans
As of 2009, the NCAA recognizes the All-America teams selected by the AP, AFCA, FWAA, Sporting News, and the WCFF to determine consensus All-Americans. At least three of these organizations have to select a player in order for him to receive the "consensus" honor. If a player is named an All-American by all five organizations, he receives the "unanimous consensus" status.[2]

quote:You make a good point, but I have seen it written both ways, not just wikipedia. I'll go ahead and change the title just cause it seems to be stirring emotions :p
"We would like to welcome LSU's wonderful cornerback tandem, consensus All American Tyrann Mathieu and unanimous All American Morris Claiborne!"
See?

I'm not saying it isn't redundant, i'm just letting you know how the ncaa classifies it.
I hear you and I know that's how it is "classified" and written out. The OP was not "wrong" in any real or factual sense. However, In my 44 years, I have NEVER heard it said, out loud, "unanimous, consensus" - although it is typed out here, I've always regarded the Rant as a conversation, do not normally play the grammar nazi role and I wasn't really trying to do that here (but ended up doing so - I guess I am an a$$hole after all) - if I wouldn't "say" it that way, I wouldn't type it here.
Clearly we have more time and energy to devote to this during the lull between games. Sorry for my, not insignificant, role in turning a nice accolade thread into one of "those" discussions.
Congrats to Mo.
