Was the runner outside his running lane. Is this the reason for the bad throw?

. RF is the back up for that play.

Correct, and RF was slow on the backup.

Exactly again. Every catcher in the world is taught a bunt down the left field line is a step over, barehand, spin and throw.

Why do people talk about stuff of which they know precisely nothing?

I guess I'm misremembering the details. I seem to remember Ross fielding the ball almost facing 2nd base. It looked like he tried to make a 360 deg turn.

Ross had no play at first. Should have held the ball.

Ty Ross wears a hockey goalie type catcher's mask. It is very firm fitting and a catcher should be able to leave it on his face while he throws down to first or any other base. I have even heard of some catchers leaving the hockey mask on to catch a fly ball. The old type masks were not as firm fitting as these and were obviously in 2 pieces. Ross is a very good defensive catcher. He just had a bad game. It is magnified when Breggers makes his error and the team doesn't hit well. I know the high long fly balls are favored by the fans because of the possibility of a home run. In my opinion I would rather see LSU hit a bunch of low line drives.
