BUT, coaches, even asst coaches have contracts. when one coach is canned, the school has contractual obligations to the fired coach and the new coach will definately want a pay raise plus the new coach will probably have a buy out. we can be talking about tens of millions of dollares here. and that's if the new prospective coach even wants to coach here. when an opening (a free one, like kiffin leaving ut) comes up, the search committee compiles a list of desirable candidates. the VAST majority of those are never even interviewed. some want too much money, too much power, their present school ponies up, etc, etc. the school is often left with a shell of a list of acceptable candidates and ofter has to settle for the 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th or lower choice. happened to bama on MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. and that's bama. if you think our program is easier to hire for than bama or ut, you're wrong; equivilant, yes; better, no.
