I wasn't at the game but heard there were quite a few very rude and cocky tech fans making derogatory comments all week to the players and coaches.including katrina references.I believe that the fake punt and not letting up was a little payback.Plus don't forget miles pulled the plug in the arky game and look what hapened.

theres a bunch of guys bitching about miles not putting in the 2nd string, but what they dont realize is that that was our 4th string qb during the summer, and a true freshman making his second start.
reality is that we had the 2nd string qb in the whole game. lee took the first snap so technically he "started" the game making jefferson technically "2nd string"
miles just wanted to give the kid a chance to let it rip in a big time game. i dont think he should have gone for the fake punt, but miles is a crazy sonofa bitch.
2nd half was a bit lame, but overall good game and

lee took the 1st snap? i was at the game and don't remember that

im almost positive lee took the first snap and handed it off to scott. jefferson came in and took every snap afterwards

tigerhack: Fans talked it for both sides. Tell me something a GT player or coach said that I can verify.

Additionally, for those who may not be familiar with the 1916 Cumberland v. GT game. It was intentional payback for Cumberland's baseball beating of Heisman and Tech (ironically) 22-0 the previous season. Cumberland's team was bolstered by several scholastically ineligible professional baseball players. Cumberland had also dropped football but Tech refused to let them out of their contract and they threw together a team of anyone that would play.

My response to anyone who cries about running up the score is that the other team does have the option of playing defense and keeping them from scoring anymore.
Posted on 1/5/09 at 3:48 pm to LSshoe
Lee took no snaps the whole game. Not even the first.

I love it when an opposing team's fanbase hates Miles after a game. It always means that LSU has recently embarassed someone. The Miami boards were great after 2005 Peach.

If a team is worried about being embarrassed, just forfeit the game and don't play. Otherwise, take your beatings and stfu. Everyone gets them sooner or later.

The fake punt notwithstanding, LSU kept throwing the ball because we need to get JJ as much experience as possible for next season. Under normal circumstances I don't think LSU keeps passing with the ball with the game in hand because that isn't smart football. But in this case we had alterior motives that were much bigger than that particular game. I think the coaching staff had next season and the season after that in mind and were doing what is best for our team. They weren't worried at all about running up the score. And I don't think they care what anyone thinks. That's my take on what happened. And I like that they did it. The fake punt I could have done without mostly because it was a phenomenal play and I would have liked to have saved it for next season for a time that mattered.

that game was a statement game. gt felt the wrath. just like the u felt the wrath.

I agree that we lost and lost bad to a physically stronger and very talented team, but to say this was a statement game ignores the fact that Tech was their own worst enemy. I don't say this to discount LSU's preparation, execution or ability.
*Kick off out of bounds - short field.
*Slightly underthrown TD pass on second play.
*Assinine fake punt.
*Onside kick not even contested.
*and on and on...
I know what everyone says about the losing team and statistics, but at the final whistle, I was surprised to see that they were remarkably balanced except for turnovers (which I give you credit for) and they don't record our boneheaded mistakes or our very good goal line stand. I was expecting to see a big difference in time of possession. One minute difference to LSU.
LSU was the better team (and a team I usually pull for). I don't know how they lost 5 games. I think they would like to have made a statement to the college football world but it wasn't a loud one. Maybe if they had scored 35 in the second half too. GT made a statenment too, but it wasn't a good one. I think the story of the game was GT's self destruction more than LSU's statement. If it were possible to take away the second quarter, we still lose. I'm not whining just anylizing. We got our butts handed to us,for a variety of reasons, not just one. I hope you guys have a great season next year. From a 9-4 team widely expected to go 3-9, with 16 of 22 starters returning next year, good recruiting and an up and coming program CPJ has laid a good foundation and look forward to next year.

wonder who posted this....good stuff:
(This rant is not intended for GT fans in general, just to those of the mindset of the original thread creator. Those of you that realize that FBS football is not Pop Warner, rock on.)
I know it's a bit upsetting to go to a bowl game and get destroyed (in one's own city nonetheless), but this is over the top absurd.
I'm not coming on here as an LSU fan trying to start anything, but this is exactly why no one respects the ACC as a football conference, and exactly why we're laughing uncontrollably on most LSU boards.
You're the #14th ranked team in the country, one of the hottest teams in the land with a solid regular season finale victory over your biggest rival. You're playing in a bowl game against a 7-5 team that has underachieved the entire year, and you're doing it in your college's home city with about a 75-25 crowd split.
And you have the audacity to complain about a punter who had a better arm than your QB last night?
Instead of taking it out on the coach (one who is often ridiculed for his intelligence) who completely outcoached and embarassed the National/ACC Coach of the Year, take it out on the genius who chose to run a fake punt (to a 270 fatty against ST players who are about as fast as any player on your roster) around his own 20 when you're not even down 2 TDs. Take it out on the return team that falls asleep at the wheel. Take it out on an O-line that after the first few drives got eaten alive the remainder of the game. Take it out on a D-line and secondary that couldn't contain a true freshman making his second career start in a bowl game that a lot of your fans thought we didn't deserve. Take it out on yourselves.
But do not take it out on the man with the crystal trophy. This isn't the minor leagues. You're a BCS school. We were down 31-3 to TROY in Death Valley earlier in the year. Final score? 40-31. 30 points in the 4th quarter. Maybe PJ should've spent more time watching the tape from that game, he might have learned a bit about pride.
Instead, you want to complain about some "classless" coach who throws the former #1 recruit in the country (his own recruit) off the defending National Champions so we can keep our identity as a team. You want to complain about a coach who often goes extremely vanilla and conservative against the garbage teams we play (and I'm not kidding, if you followed Les you'd know that he's VERY boring against inferior teams, he goes way easy on them), about as polar opposite as Pete Carroll as you can get. You want to complain about our coach, who has had to deal with the most inept DCs in the SEC and who refused to fire them so that they might have a chance with other schools. Yeah, he's classless alright.
This has been an extremely frustrating year for LSU, particularly coming off of a National Championship. This game was the game where we let all our anger out. Apparently we left too much on the field for you.
OP, is your team one of those garbage teams, or are you good enough to play with the big boys? Last night said you aren't ready.
I'm sorry that the fake punt offended you so bad that it caused you to make a thread about a coach that you clearly know very little about. I'm sorry that when the play occurred the dome was about as loud as it had been since the 1st quarter.
Sorry if I upset anyone. I'm not here to ridicule your team (which I greatly respect, the Jackets are gonna be great for years), just the morons who buy into this nonsense.
Congrats on an excellent season and good luck next year.

Considering the quality of Miles' recruiting classes at LSU, why do these geeks keep saying he is running out of talent? How can college geeks continue to be so utterly clueless?
One of them in Atlanta said number 1 recruiting classes dont matter cause Notre Dame always has good classes.
