I think every stolen base against us this year was b/c the runners were getting huge jumps on our pitchers. I can't recall any stealing on Micah with a poor jump.

This.

I wonder why he's been so terrible at throwing runners out this year. I remember him being pretty good last year I thought.

we have been throwing more lefty's this season. Isn't it true that runners get better jumps off lefty's?

No, I'd think they get worse jumps off of lefties. their move to the plate is harder to read.

Its because our pitchers aren't doing a very good job of holding them on, especially guys like Bourgeois and Bradshaw

i thought i heard them talking about it in one of the games. Something about a lefty's delivery takes longer. When someone is on first, they are able to make a better jump off the bag.

only if they have a high leg kick and don't throw it hard

Micah Gibbs is actualy more known for his defense behind the plate, yeah hell throw some guys out but the guy doesnt have many pass balls giving alot more opportunities to steal Just a solid defender and when the games on the line the bases or loaded i want him behind the plate covering any breaking pitches

this. And the only way you should get a better jump on a left hander, with delivery times being equal, is by going on first move, which is risky indeed

It seemed like Gibbs was pressing a little at the plate. I think he struck out a couple of times. He just didn't seem as patient as he normally is.

The thing that suprised me about Micah at the plate during the SEC tournament was that he took a few called 3rd strikes without even taking the bat off of his shoulder. I have a feeling that he will come out of his mini slump in Westwood.

Against lefty's runners often go on the first movement, risky but allows the runner to get a great jump

You havent seen too many games then. Not too many teams steal on him. But he's definitely thrown out his share

Teams have attempted 66 steals against him. That seems like a lot. He's thrown out 9 for a 14% clip. It's not too outrageous to say you haven't seen him throw out anyone at 2nd this season.

Jeeves, I agree with you here. But I also think that much of the blame must go to our pitchers (and the coaches). For the most part they don't hold runners well and the runners have such a good jump. This is hard to quantify, but think about all the times the runner was half way to 2B when Gibbs got the ball.
