If I remember right, LSU was down 10 to 0 in the first quarter and fought back to lead 12 to 10 in the fourth. My parents went to that game with Skipper Heard the former AD at LSU.

Errr, math must not be your strong suit. Ten years worth of winning isn't going to significantly alter rankings based on one-hundred and twenty years of data, no matter how dominant that ten year period is. (It's the equivalent of going 50 MPH for 59m 30s, then accelerating to 100 MPH for 30s. Your average speed is going to much closer to 50 MPH than 100 MPH over the entire hour, simply because of weighting.)

Here is the bottom line. Post-Saban (2000) LSU has won twice as many national national championships (2) as it did in the entire remainder of its history (1)(unless you want to recognize the controversial 1908 championship, in which case LSU over the last ten years equalled the number of NC's it garnered in the previous 110 years...not much better for whatever strange case you are making). Post-Saban LSU has won as many SEC titles (4) as it did in the previous thirty eight years. Post-Saban LSU has won as many Suger Bowls (3) as it did in the entire remainder of its program history! (And I'm not even counting the 2007 NCG, which technically wasn't the Sugar Bowl). The last twelve years have been LSU's best continuous stretch of football by a fairly wide margin. This shouldn't be controversial. It's obvious that LSU has been a much more "relevant" national title contender since 2000 than in previous eras. Why are we even arguing about this?

definately remember, john ferguson calling his name. Was too young to go to the games living in NO. We listened to those games with our ears glued to the radio like we were hearing of war. Kinda wish instead of wearing the purple jersey for homecoming or whatever they would wear these more simplistic uniforms, number on the helmet and no names on the jerseys / it’s not much different and that’s all the more reason to show it off instead of the purple jersey that has no connection to the past and little meaning.

sorry to Hodson, Davis, Caston, and co. / they had some very good teams when we were forced to wear the purple, so there is some connection to those teams, then the magic wore off and the bad memories of the 90s were ushered in, still stuck with the purple

Telling my age but i was at that game.Bought my tix from someone in the new orleans newspaper and they were in the neb sec.There was a lot of racial unrest in miami that year due to a cuban decent cop shooting a black youth a few weeks before the game so there was a bad turnout for the game.best halftime show i have ever seen.Neb was loaded with all americans like dave remington and mike rozier.We played tough but our depth was not up to theres

It's funny. The LSU fans who were watching this game would be sort of like fans today who remember seeing a game in 2000.

This was only 12 years after the '58 team.

You don't see game today where they start the broadcast off by introducing the ref crew and the time keeper. Especially not the timekeeper.

That 1970-71 Lsu team was one of the most underappreciated teams ever. I remember watching them in that 61-17 blowout of Ole Miss when Tommy Casanova ran wild. That team got off to a bad start unexpectedly losing to a mediocre Texas A & M team in the opener, losing a heartbreaker to #2 Notre Dame 0-3 and then that fierce battle with Nebrasca which was #3 and then moved up to #1. A total of 3 losses which they easily could have won.
Such a season was somewhat typical of Cholly Mac, always able to compete at the highest level against the best teams in the nation, but usually not having luck go his way as it frequently does for Miles.

LSU led the nation in rushing defense for a number of years during this time with small defensive players. They were always in the right place though. Their scoring defense was crazy even for back then
