This is by design. LSU HEAVILY recruits Texas for both sports and students in general. They can usually pull students from TX of equal or sometimes greater quality as LA and charge them double because of out of state tuition expenses.

such a double edged sword playing in these neutral site games. yes you get the brand out there but you also take away from fans with 1 less home game

This is not a neutral site game or a classic. It's a home and home but rice is playing their home game at NRG. They will get more people to go to NRG than their old on campus stadium

well yes

i don't think anyone has a problem with lsu playing games in texas. the objection is playing rice.

I really like the focus on Houston. Take the chair out from under A&M, and watch them struggle for 3* players across the state like their older bro UT

lsu and texas won't be the first game of the season.

i'm assuming that lsu and rice won't be able to play this game the opening week of the season, unless it's on a thursday or friday. because, as you said, NRG will probably be used for neutral site/kickoff games that opening weekend.

so i'm guessing we could be looking at this schedule:

9/5 - scrub team at home
9/12 - vs. texas
then lsu vs. rice some time in late september, similar to the syracuse game.

this is clearly your first rodeo. i would like to somehow bet you that this will be changed to some sort of neutral site "classic" game or canceled all together when one of the two schools gets asked to participate in another "classic" game.

If tickets are more than $50 you can count me out for the one in Houston.

lol

texas hasn't played in a classic game ever. they've done home/home with ohio state, notre dame, ucla, byu, and california in the last 10 years. they've held them all. clearly they aren't afraid to play tough competition and clearly they want to do it in on-campus stadiums.

as for lsu, they have no reason to cancel. the game is in the state of texas, which is obviously what they want.

maybe this is your first rodeo.

double jack n coke at NRG was $27 when we played Wisconsin. Finding a cab after the game was a joke, there was a line 300 people deep after the game waiting on cabs that would pass once every 15 minutes. uber is not allowed to pick people up at the stadium, some kind of agreement with the city and the Labor Union

Playing one game in the area is not a deal breaker for recruits. Hate when morons rationalize these games with that

I have a feeling we're getting a large amount of money from the game in NRG

LSU and Rice first played in 1915. The Series Record is
37-13-5. Some of the games were a big deal as the lost to Rice in 1961 cost LSU a NC.

if LSU is offered another option that would bring in more money, you can mark it on your calendar. it's a loooong time between now and september 2020. a lot of schedule churning. follow the money, young one.
