To set up the pass. What do you all think about passing to set up the run....just feel like we have good enough receivers to set up the strongest part of our team in o line and running backs??

have to be able to pass consistently. im not so sure about that right now. at some point in the wisc game our pass did set up the run, but it was so open cause we ran so much. always best to mix it up imo.

two things that I feel have weighed on Les.
1. Defense that wore out vs Tennessee in the game following Katrina.
After we lost that game destroying Tennessee in the first half and then running out of steam in the second. It always seemed to me Miles holds back blitzes in the first half and turns the defense loose in the second.
2. After the pick 6's and the JJ/JL era it seems like he is scared to throw a pass fearing he will send his QB into a funk.
It's almost like those two things have been stuck in his head as a jinx. I think it carries over to the QB's and fans. Everyone peeking through a finger when a pass is thrown.
I may be wrong but always felt that way.

Even on the TD pass Jennings threw to Dural last week, I thought he was throwing the ball away.

I'm amazed LSU completions averaged @25 YPC in the first game. Honestly, I think this was more because of Dural and Diarse than Jennings. They both made big plays. I doubt any LSU QB has done this including JR, Mett, and Rohan, I may be wrong.
We have to complete some short passes and screens to set up the run. Long passes are great, I just don't think the Badgers had good DB's. Certainly we have the athletes to go deep and should utilize them.
I am saying we are still a work in progress.

quite the post right after a 3000 yard passer and 2 1000 yard receivers

Obviously I didn't mean that was the case in Mett's last two years, he had earned the confidence. I felt that way with the young guns.
Just the way I felt not saying It's fact.

After Katrina, I believe we can give a pass to Miles. Tigers were playing on emotion in first half against UT. They were out helping the community by distributing water, etc. I remember players saying they had 12-14 family members in their 2 bedroom apts. Everyone was on IV's at half. The devastation told everyone football was not that big of a deal at that time.
As to 2008, we are in the same scenario again, young QB's(Hatch started who had the worse arm I have seen for an LSU QB). We had no choice but too burn 2 QB's that were not ready and we had to live with them for 4 years. They both made some plays, but they weren't that good. RP situation essentially killed them although they managed to win 41 games at the helm because the rest of the team was loaded.
I think talent wise we are better at QB now, not sure the cast around them is as good. They aren't bad now...hopefully these last two classes and the incoming one will get them back to that level.

I think we can run when we want. What I mean by that is we don't have to run out of the I to run the ball. We can spread the defense and hand off out of the shotgun( worked Saturday). After wearing down the defense a little by driving the ball we can go back to the I and pretty much break a teams will.
I love a good power running game but I hate acting like it's the only way to run the ball especially early in games.
