I don't know who's film Lyles is using. Or any of these third party guys.
I'm assuming they are filming on their own... or at least having their employees filming. I'm assuming these videos are compiled from their own footage and not just burned onto disk from downloaded you tube videos.

I doubt this is exactly what is happening in every case. I suppose it depends on the service. I have never heard that Lyles and his cohorts are compiling original information. I thought they were just putting together film and evaluation packages for coaching staffs.

My guess is the scrutiny will definitely change the way schools use these "third party sites." Too much room for corruption.
the ncaa already seems to have made a change in that respect - making it against the rules in the future to pay any recruiting service the premium service charges that have gone on in the recent past
but really the issue is still blowback from an earlier decision the NCAA made last decade... to further restrict the amount of contact between the coaches and potential recruits. It was that more than anything else that made the recruiting services and street agents more powerful

There are not film clips floating around in space for people like Lyles to download. These people are getting their own footage. Even if joe blow pays for premium membership to those rivals sites and scout sites, there isn't that much footage... a couple short clips on lots of players... but far from all players.
As I already said, I guarantee you LSU is not paying 6k for a couple short clips that were downloaded from rivals (by Lyles) when they could have spent 2 minutes to download themselves from their existing premium Rivals and Scout memberships.

If I had the financially stability all these bigwigs in their half mil motor homes had, I'd be driving to places and filming college kids LSU is interested in for free. LSU wouldn't have to worry about paying anyone.
Time for these lazy wealthy people to get off their asses and go film 4 and 5 star athletes across the country.

this is the problem - the law of unintended consequences... rules like the ones the ncaa recently passed made street agents and recruiting services more powerful... the more recent banning of recruiting service premium contracts may result in more involvement of wealthy boosters in one way or another - and that is probably a bigger briar patch than even street agents

Do not look for the NCAA to go after LSU about Lyles, unless something else turns up.

Look for the NCAA to react in accordance to these scouting services however. I think LSU will be in the clear, but the services will receive a black eye.

I agree. I hope we are right.

Complete Scouting Services was founded in early 2010, shortly after Lyles left another scouting service, and not amicably.
The domain name for the new company’s website — a necessity to comply with NCAA rules for scouting services — was registered March 16, 2010, three weeks after Lyles’ invoice to Oregon (Feb. 22) and 13 days before Oregon’s payment (March 29).
While we’re considering the legitimacy of the company, and the transaction with Oregon, let’s not forget that The Register-Guard’s Rob Moseley noticed an interesting development Friday on Lyles’ website.
That morning, there was no listing for a national high-school package. In the afternoon, there suddenly was. For $25,000.

Really doesn't look like much. Again, basically getting game film.

For what it's worth I went to Elite Scouting Services (where Lyles used to work) site and they have a bunch of their video on the site. The make some claims/boasts that they have hundreds of video on you tube. They all have the name of the company watermarked on the video, so you know they actually did the filming. And IMO they are of much better quality then if you just searched the internet for random videos.
Now I don't know if this is the same with Lyles own company.
