BATON ROUGE – With the announcement Thursday of the official pairings for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, LSU’s non-conference schedule for the 2019-20 men’s basketball season has almost been put in place.

Coach Will Wade’s Tigers will play a minimum of seven non-conference teams that won 20 or more games last year and six appeared in post-season tournament games.

This is where certain posters show up to say our non conference schedule sucks and we have no margin of error to make the tournament.

Yeah can't wait for that... As a season ticket holder though this HOME schedule is underwhelming, but having VCU and UT here next year (and I'd guess some kind of return trip from USC) will be awesome

Can't wait to see Coach Wade take the boys to back-to-back SEC Championships.

Nope.

On paper this looks like a very solid Non-Conf. schedule. Utah St. will likely be a preseason Top 25 team. In fact, I suspect they will be ranked HIGHER than LSU to start. VCU and USC may be ranked as well, or at minimum, fringe top 25 teams. Then, LSU gets a road game at a Big 12 opponent (Texas) who is generally a NCAAT participant.

It won't be easy, but there is a LOT of opportunity for big wins with all 4 games being away from home.

The only downside to the schedule is there are no big OOC games at home. It won't be until January before we see a really good matchup in the PMAC (though the ETSU game should be good, even though it won't get the hype)

Home schedule is very weak and needs to be improved. This has been an ongoing issue before Wade arrived. Overall it’s a good non-conference schedule but at minimum one big name school should be playing in the PMAC every season.

Best non-conference schedule we've had in quite some time... Last year's ended up being solid as well (it's almost like our head coach knows what he's doing when scheduling things)

This is pretty entitled for a team that hasn't been at all relevant for more than a decade

Next year we get VCU and Texas at home, so that already makes next years home Non Conference better.

You’re too knowledgeable to be the subject of my post. I meant those who don’t realize the “no name schools” that are actually quality victories because Wade has a good idea of who will end up with 20+ wins.

Yep, plus I'd guess there's some agreement with USC (maybe in NOLA?), I could be wrong, but I can't imagine playing a virtual home game for them without some kind of return

I could see it since it is a college classic that we are playing in and not a "home" game for USC. Wade is trying to grow the LSU basketball brand and going out on the West Coast and just playing in these games have more benefit to the program than a return game. That said I would, love to see us have a return game in NOLA or Houston (recruiting purposes).

The names of the OOC teams coming to the PMAC might underwhelm you but they are good teams to build a tourney resume on.

Bowling Green won 22 games last season.
Everybody knows that UMBC is capable of a big upset.
ETSU won 24 last season.
UNO was 1 win away from making the NCAA tournament last year.
Liberty won 29 games and beat Mississippi State in the NCAA tournament.

Next year we get...Texas at home

Did I miss an announcement on this one or are people assuming that since we play them in Austin this year for the SEC/Big12 challenge, that they will be coming to BR next season? If so, I don’t think that is how it works. I believe the matchups generally change. While LSU will have a home game in 2021 for the challenge (since they will be on the road in 2020); I don’t think it is a guarantee that UT will be the team they play. Nevertheless, the point stands that it should be a quality name team that will get even the average fan excited.
