RLDSC - nice pic.

USC has dominated the PAC 10 for a while now, and they have been dominate nationally as well. What hurts the PAC 10 is that unlike the SEC or the Big 12, there have been no clear set of second tier teams that are consistently dangerous. The SEC has had Florida in the East, and LSU in the West as the dominate teams during USC's run.

But Bama, Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee are tougher and more consistent that the corresponding second tier teams in the PAC 10.

In the Big 12 it is a little different, with two dominant teams (Texas and Oklahoma) rather than the PAC 10's one. But this still creates a greater sense of conference strength.

This does NOT mean the PAC 10 sucks. It doesn't. Just ask Tennessee.

Erin Go Bra

How did ND sneak into the pre-season top 20 this year? What is this prediction based upon? Last year's performance? Love of Green?

I wish the Irish all the best, as I think a strong ND team is good for college football, but they get so much love...and for what?

Hmmmm. Let's see.

Alabama 27 LSU 21

Utah (Mt. West) 31 Alabama 17

Yeah, those Mt. West teams really suck.

Alabama beat Ole Miss, Ole Miss beat UF, Therefore:

Alabama 13 time national champs!!!!

oh wait, South Carolina beat Ole Miss too...

South Carolina 2008 Co-National Champions!!!

Looks like another BCS controversy...

I'm thinking the soft schedule has something to do with it. Anything less than 9 victories and Charlie is history.

Because of its ties to Catholicism Notre Name has always had a huge national following. That is becoming less and less of a factor and now the Irish are just another team among many. But like much of what's taking place in the country, NBC has yet to figure that out.

I get the catholic/national issue. But why does that influence the pollsters?

But I like your schedule answer. I hadn't looked at it that carefully. That makes sense. Plus, if ND wins 9 games they are almost guaranteed a BCS invite, so now I get it.

Thanks
