Thanks for clearing up all the misinformation.
Richey had a cannon for a leg. He is still probably the most talented kicker LSU ever had on its roster. I was at LSU during this time period. I still remember how excited LSU fans were to sign him. I've never seen that much excitement over another kicker we signed.
For some reason, I really thought he would make that kick against Auburn 1997. One of the most underrated games ever at Tiger Stadium. Atmosphere was intense. Damn Dameyune Craig.

This is what struck me. Recruiting wasn't nearly as big a deal in the 90s as it is now, and I heard about recruiting only when elite players like Kevin Faulk or Marcus Spears were coming out. But there was a serious buzz about signing a kicker. That was unusual to say the least.

Janakowsky may have been the only high school kicker, that I remember, that generated more national recruiting pandemonium.

Actually the kicker at Barbe was better during those years.

Not to hijack, but he did the same to Tommy Banks career. 1997 Fla game was his coming out party...wasn't heard from after that.

Our kicking has gone steadily downhill since Ronnie Lewis.
