We are so soft on defense. With the way we are so aggressive on the glass you think we would be a really aggressive defensive team. After this game I literally had to go watch good perimeter defensive videos to remember what good defense looks like. Yes I know these are all NBA gifs but they honestly don’t have any footage of good perimeter college defense.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but these clips are all pretty old... and from the NBA

I understand they are clips from the NBA but it’s not like they’re doing things that college athletes can’t do. Yes some of them may be bigger but most of these gifs translate to hustle and putting a god damn hand in somebody’s face.

Well sure, but it's the equivalent of comparing college football players to the NFL... when your job 100% of the time is a sport, you're going to be way better at it, that's just how it works

So, you gave a couple of the best defensive plays in recent NBA playoff history as your examples of “good” defense?

Dude it’s honestly all I could get. I understand it’s NBA and it’s playoff moments but most of this is fundamentals man. If they had videos of college athletes playing good perimeter defense I would have done that one. My bad.

Alright so you explain to me why Watford couldn’t do this to that white guy shooting threes?

There is nothing special about this. Instead he put his hand up like two or three feet away from him. Like that’s going to do something.

I mean... they are doing some things most college kids can’t do.

Also some fouls.

Are all the three pointers a one on one situation and not one where the ball has been passed from somewhere else?

So college kids all of sudden can’t close out on a three the proper way?

Because you're comparing a one on one 3 pointer off the dribble to what sounds like a close out after a pass... you know two entirely different situations

That’s on ball defense. Watford’s issue was he got caught helping in the lane and gave weak efforts closing on the kick out. A mix of poor awareness and poor effort. WW lit him up for it too.

You’re showing the top end peremeter defender in the top basketball league in the world

Yeah a middle of the road SEC team might not be able to do that.

You didn’t think the fact that you didn’t find a bunch of footage of good college perimeter defense was a sign?

Comparisons don't work like that. Why do people do this when someone compares College and pro-level athletes?

The comparisons are valid because both the offense and defensive players are at the same level.

Yes, the defenders are NBA players but so are the shooters. Same in college.

Duh

So in your opinion, is it the coaching? Or do we have players that have no talent on the defensive side of the ball? I don't know, I am just wondering what the issue is.

You are ridiculous. You can't guard the three if we don't have a dominant big defender inside. We had three defenders on Richards and he still scored. There is not one LSU player who can slow down Richards.

This. In everyone of those the defender would have been whistled for a foul, especially with SEC refs.

LSU will get a foul call on every one of those.

By not having a shot blocker like Bigby-Williams to protect the goal. Guards are scared to play up and get beet off the dribble. Therefore they play off and allow more open shots
