And I sure am glad that we burned this kid's redshirt for 3-4 touches a game, and no touches in a couple of games.

This board would have gone nuclear if Miles had redshirted a 5 star #1 ranked player. Hindsight is 20/20

He can throw, but who cares...put him in the cat and let him chose his path. He can flat out make you look silly, even in the vaunted SEC!

One day all of you who think differently will understand how idiotic it was this year NOT to use him till his legs fell off.

NO ONE, NO ONE AT ALL, IS BETTER WITH THE BALL IN HIS HANDS!!! PERIOD.

This staff should be fired for not using him ALOT since day one. They talk about a fumble in the 3rd game and bs like that. F that! He should have had 50 touches by then.

Shep is special and could have saved the offense. in sooo many ways. It was simply stupid to leave JJ in all those games this year when it was obvious something wasn't working. If you give Shep half those plays, it makes JJ more effective.

Lets just say for the sake of arguement, Shepard's passing skills are not "stellar". I still have to ask how in the hell did this kid not attempt a pass out of the wildcat formation the ENTIRE season???? These coaches basically telegraphed every play Shepard was in (run). The kicker is Shepard was still gaining 6 yards a pop!!!

Unreal on how this kid was not more involved in the offense. Coaching. BAD coaching.

Here is a link to lsusports.net's statistics for LSU fumbles during games in the '09 season (includes '10 Penn State):

LINK

Check Fumble Stats.

What this official site shows is that Shep had 2 fumbles for the year with only one lost (Vandy game). Note that JJ, Trindon, Reuben Randle, Charles Scott, and Stevan Ridley also lost one for the year. Fumbles are never good but seem to "come with the territory" for players with "touches". Shep did not produce or lose 4 or 5 fumbles for the year as stated somewhere on this thread.

The thread theme was really about Shep's ability to pass and the under-utilization of his ability. He can definitely pass. Of course we have not seen this demonstrated at the NCAA FBS level. IMO, that is a shame and should be addressed by our coaches next year.

he fumbled ONE legit time

the other one was clearly caused by the ground, but was never reviewed.

but yeah, not 4-5 times.

like 1 1/2

I just think Shep is such a "playmaker", to quote the media, that to leave him out of plays (including passing per your thread) when LSU clearly finished so poorly offensively this year (85 to 115 of FBS schools this year, take your pick of the offensive statistic) is (IMO) very unreasonable. WTF?

I mean, this guy can pass. If the play breaks down, he has wheels and can make SEC competition look bad. Like they are standing still. There is nothing special about the leap from Texas 5A football to SEC football (or even ULL, etc.).... Everyone witnessed it with his scrambling ability. Yet nobody saw his passing ability? Even against the dial-it-in wins? Again, WTF? I am as confused as several on this board, but I will always pull for the entire LSU organization......

ETA - Oh, Oh, I forgot Doc. I agree ...

thought for sure they'd let him throw a couple times this year, AT least against the rent a win teams.

just very disappointing

I love this thread, because it encompasses the smart, the idiotic, and the psychotic all in one place.

Fwiw, I suppose I'll let this loose. I hinted at it earlier in this thread, and one person sort of caught on.

RS didn't start or even go as backup QB because of two major issues.

1. His knowledge of the Crowton system is not very good, and it's for good reason. He's run a spread option all his life, and the terminology is completely new to him. He had trouble remembering his role as QB, and his reads were HORRIBLE. The speed of the defense (scout at least) caught up to his knowledge, and reads weren't nearly fast enough. Lee actually knows the system the best, but he has absolutely no confidence in himself. The best option to win was, of course, JJ.

2. there was no need for a debacle like the Lee situation matter last year. Lee's confidence in QB'ing the team was shot...and for good reason. Of course this was known...and you can't have a five star recruit look bad in front of 90K plus. So, what do you do with a heralded recruit that you're getting pressure from the higher-ups to see? Put him in a x-factor setting, and let him just run and use the raw talent instead of having him remember complicated plays.

I can't address the issue with throwing out of the x-spot, because I don't know what happened with that idea (it was there for the taking).

Just make sure you know that there are people that read the rant to get a feel of what's going on with tiger fans, and relaying this info (fwiw) to those who need to know.

So, please continue.
