I worked with John's big sister, Donna, for many years and so I have followed John Ed's career. I read his book and did find it to be sad, but it really does show how it was, when everyone lived and breathed Tiger football, and even back then Tiger fans had expectations that were too high. They fired Charlie Mac who had a 79% winning percentage because he only beat the Bear twice, and won the SEC only once

And probably because he was losing to folks like Indiana, Stanford, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Missouri, Florida State and Tulane his last 3 years.

69%. And during his last 6 years, LSU had a 55% win percentage and didn't finish ranked a single time.

I grew up with Chollie Mac as the coach, and loved him, but it was time for him to go.

my dad was the quarterback at OHS when john ed played and our families are pretty close. everyone in my family read the book and my dad said it didnt even begin to scratch the surface of how bad it was. he would go visit john ed at his moms house, he said he basically turned into a hermit. i can see where when you devote so much of your life to something like he did, it can take its toll on you. it would totaly frick my shite up if someone told me that i would never be able to watch another football game in my life, not just an LSU game, ALL FOOTBALL!

feel bad for the guy but i think hes come around
