Yeah, his name is Gary Crowton.
That's why I completely dismiss the "maybe he's progressed" argument. One, its speculative. Two, based on Crowton's coaching resume, we shouldn't hold our breath. So the question is, which quarterback gives you the best opportunity to win "as is?"

I like to think that if Jefferson can grow and get better then so could Lee.
Yeah, the "fans of a player" seem to disregard this, at all. Both have the ability to improve on the things that have limited them in the past.
Unfortunately for a couple of people on this board, all of JJ's faults are not really his and Lee doesn't have the ability to improve.
Seems to be the case they make. I think both have an upside and don't see the need to hate on either.

Of course "maybe" is speculative. Do you never deal in hypotheticals? Both have the ability to improve even with independent work. I am not going to count out either of these QB's seeing that LSU will definitely need both this year.

bs... they gave up on shitty arse defense and that frick Dbyrd.
that group was a far bigger thorn in LSU's side than a fresh qb named JL.
Look, there is no doubt that blame goes on Byrd and the defense. But Roger was arguing "leadership" and we have one QB that was able to hold a team together and one that wasn't. Now, that's not definitive proof (especially for something as subjective as leadership) but it at least gives us a hint that Jefferson might not be such a terrible leader.

a bunch of us were talking about this last weekend at a golf tourn
Wonder what JJ's stats, as so many of you so prouldy post would have looked like if you looked outside passes thrown 5 yrds and under.
I hope they both improve tremendously..
I agree with Roger, whether yall like it or not JL will get meaningful snaps this year.

Did I call you a hater?
No, I didn't. You have a link?

I'm not a hater of either, and like I've stated, I don't think either one is the next Joe Montana. But just because I state JJ should be the starter, and provide concrete evidence as to why Lee shouldn't be, doesn't mean I hate Lee. I'd LOVE to see him step up and be the man. I'd love to hear him CHEERED in Tiger Stadium before he leaves here.

Are you arguing that '09 held together better than '08? Minus D Byrd, what were the differences? The defense was improved in '09, the offense got worse...
Don't think your argument here is very solid. Its based on a lot of speculation, the offense got WORSE.

I think our leaders on offense will be RS and PJ.
JJ hasnt struck me as a leader since he's been here and there isnt much talk of him being that way now.

Eh honestly players can improve on their own, they can spend their own free time learning playbook, working with players, lifting weights, and watching video.
They can both improve their stock if they are willing to take the time and effort. If they are well I am not on the current team and could not tell you, neither could anyone else on this board.
As a Tiger fan I like to hope they are taking the extra effort to learn these things and from reports each player is doing this.
Blame still partly falls on Crowton, he is in the end the one that calls the plays. He does not work his playbook towards either players strengths and tends to call plays that actually expose the weaknesses in the QB's (in my opinion). This alone could explain some things, if a player is not comfortable with a play he is less sure in himself and more likely to make a "mental" mistake trying not screw up.

That's an awful foolish way of looking at things, especially if you're a Saints/Drew Brees fan.
Personally, I think we should have thrown more short routes last year. We had a very weak offensive line that couldn't hold blocks, a lack of a running game which caused defensives to play a step back, and play makers at the wide receiver position.
Hell, a 176 year old Rich Gannon took Oakland to a Super Bowl on five yard routes.
No offense, but your post is pretty absurd.

Right. "Leadership" is a speculative position for fans to take. Hell, for three years we heard how great of leader Flynn was compared to Russell, but the players all consistently held Russell in high esteem (and Flynn as well).
I'm just pointing out that you thought Lee was a better leader than Jefferson. There is really nothing I've seen that would indicate that. In fact, what we've seen hints the opposite. But, agreed, it is all speculative.

J Lee starter:2008
Longest was 66.
114 1st downs.
66 15+.
23 25+
JJ starter:2009
Longest 58.
109 for 1st downs.
52 15+
23 25+.
Remember that JJ started a game in '08, (plus the bowl game) and Lee started a game in '09...

Crowton didn't do JJ any favors last season.
Look fellas, JJ will start, its his to make happen or not. Also, whether some of you like it or not, (not gonna name names here) Jarrett Lee will get meaningful playing time in a big game this year. Instead of bashing one to lift another its time to realize both of these guys have talent, have been put in a horrible situation with little instruction and even less play calling support.
Both have identity issues and confidence problems and both should receive the benefit of the doubt that they can improve.

Chicken should give people the option of "Team Jefferson" or "Team Lee" as their favorite teams.

I don't see this happening unless Jefferson goes down with an injury.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love for Lee to be the second coming and take the reigns. But there is absolutely nothing that leads me to believe this is going to happen.

based on previous games, this is a given. JJ isn't going through the season without an injury.

So does ZL red shirt this year?
Posted on 7/20/10 at 5:55 pm to BayAreaTigerFan
I hope so, but its not beyond the scope of reality for three QB's to be necessary in a season. I don't know how good he is, may be able to read the defense better than the two we have now.
