I don't know JR personally.. I am sure I would like him...I am a fan, I pull for him...I watched the Raiders only because of him.

His public image today was created by himself, from his personal dress code, his interviews, his work ethic, his on and off the field leadership, and ultimately his play on the field, all of this he has to own.

Perception is reality.. and Facts are facts

You dress like a Thug, the perception follows. Are you really a thug? Nobody knows...but you don't help your case..by dressing a certain way, walking a certain way...flashing diamonds before your first NFL start.

NFL QB's get a lot of attention... it comes with the 60 Million dollar deal

You play like crap and then act like you don't care...that is perceived as lazy..ungrateful, and lacking personal integrity...another perception of said Thug "BAMA BOY" Bling necklace after signing 60 million dollar contract..

Is Is...JR could be an innocent Choir boy...but the Bling and laziness and poor play don't bode will for a public image... At least Drew Bress is well thought of off the field, and is loved in NO... Brady is a Hall of Fame QB...and probably has girls throwing themselves at him...no excuse..But most NFL QB's don't dress like thugs...they wear suits..

See the difference?...One is professional..the other looks like a high school punk

It's just like the tatoos in the NBA...it's a bad image IMHO... THUG city watching in HD

I just want you to know that many former LSU football players think current players DO most certainly owe LSU something.

nobody cares

Jerry Stovall flat-out said so to a group of players. An awesome speech.

even less people care

For the record, yes players do owe LSU...they gave them a great opportunity and a great experience

and the players, like Jamarcus, repay the university with football wins and a lot of money...neither side owes the other anything

See the end results?

That he's wearing a chain.

Only an ignorant person would ignore the fact that he's never been in any trouble and see a chain and think he's a thug.

Here's the positive in all of this - many of us can go back to rooting against and laughing at the train wreck that is the Oakland Raiders. Minus JR, there is not other organization I detest more.

it's not a "me" attitude

college football is a business, like it or not. Football players are there to play football, improve, then make millions. The same exact reason anyone goes to college

some of you people need realize college football isn't like Rudy or everybodys all American...it's 2010

yeah, it was just a normal 1/8" gold chain like from the 70's-80's white guys wore under the shirts..

No, he has never been into trouble..True..

But if you can't appreciate the fact that in one night , JR was on National TV with that outfit didn't send a message to the entire NFL fan base, then you have severely underestimated the power of public image..

He thought it was cool..or he would not have done it..

My first thought was.." he'll never make it"

My second thought was " I am embarrassed for him"..

How many white fans thought " typical ##$#$" you know what?

yeah, and how is that working out every year in the draft for LSU players?

How all all College players? about 2% make it big....

High school fantasies of playing in the NFL will get a former player mopping floors if he didn't go to college to earn an education.. (fundamental truth)

Only an ignorant person would believe today's world is different than yesterdays...

Fundamentals always win!

Bingo. And it makes it all the sweeter if they continue to struggle.. particularly if Campbell puts up similar or worse numbers than Russell did. New motivation to hate them is that they absolutely derailed JR's career.

i like how people still can't get over him wearing a big chain and a goofy sweater to that LSU game. yal act like he dressed that way that night to spite lsu, like he doesn't wear big arse chains ALL THE TIME.

guess what, he grew up in the ghetto in mobile, he went to a pretty ghetto high school. he's sagged his pants and tilted his hat his whole life, why would that change once he got paid? ok, he bought an expensive gaudy piece of jewelry he would have worn at LSU if he could have afforded it. get over it, who cares.

Well, because the topic is about him being a bust...and the root to his failure...

I am a fan of JR... I like him...I want him to succeed.

The "look at me, I made it out of the Ghetto look", just sent the wrong public message...and that one night is connected to his release...It was in a lot of ways predictable...but not wished for by anyone.

Does that makes sense?

If you don't care what fans think, then it doesn't matter, he will be yesterday's news..

gold chains are not a black thing... I assure you we could make a run by the kappa sig, KA, SAE or PKE house right now, and find white college kids with 'ropes' on that embarrass their mothers and fathers.

I think Russell is still very young and finding his way... his football skills are the primary reason he has had intense structure and support surrounding him for approximately 25 years.

I know dozens of great kids that lost their way, if only for a few years, with the sniff of freedom of their college years, but we begrudge a kid who cannot handle winning the NFL lottery.

Russell has never cost me a dime... it seems the Raiders had serious consideration related to not releasing him - this speaks volumes people!

I couldn't care less if Jamarcus plays another down of football. I would still cheer like mad to see him throw touchdowns for any NFL team.

But mostly, I hope he's 'good people' and puts his family first.
