jackson could flat out score and it was nothing anyone could do about it he is clearly one of the the top player ever to play college ball and was exciting doing it.

no one knows what could have been with Randy if he didn't hurt himself but with that said jackson was the better college player. saw both play in high school and jackson was a scoring point and randy was a pure point.

I still have the copy of that SI also. Mine is signed by him. I was in Knoxville for a "one on one " game one night between him and Allan Houston when Houston was at TN. Fricking awesome.

Randy COULD have been great, but comparing him to Chris isn't fair to Chris Jackson. Jackson was awesome in college. Randy was awesome in High School.

you are correct there should not be a comparison because randy had serious injuries and we really don't know what he could have done. but with that said rand was awesome in school but so was jackson saw him play in lake charles against washington marion he was awesome he put on one hell of a show

I saw Mike and Mike this morning. Jalen was asked who were the best players he played with and initially he said Webber in college and Reggie Miller in the pros then he got started about Rauf. He went on about a 45 second rant about how talented Rauf was and said that when he was on, how lights out and hard to stop he was(or something to that affect) and then he went on to describe his crossover move and a shot he would put up off of the crossover. He was very complimentary and very accurate, I thought.

I enjoy listening to Rose. I like his enthusiasm. He's not the best speaker, and sometimes he goes to the same cliche's over and over (this morning it was "timeless moment") he kept using, but, overall, he's refreshing, and I enjoy hearing him and his commentary

Regarding Jackson vs Livingston. I agree that Livingston was more of a true pt and no telling how good he could have been if healthy but, from what I saw of the two, Jackson was the much better player. One of the better "college" players I've ever seen at that hybrid pt/shooting guard role of his

Crossover had been done for years. I am a huge CJ fan but Hardway ate his lunch in the NCAA tourney that year. The reason we lost to UTEP.

The UTEP two step got us that year. Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't Timmy a Senior and CJ a Freshman that year?

and I really hate the comparing 2 LSU players. Why can't we just consider both great?

Just reading and it seems to me that none of you ever saw The Pistol play. To me the best player period to ever doan the Purple & Gold. To say that this player or that player was better than and not say the Pistol is just plain full of it. He is still the all-time leading NCAA Division I scorer with 3,667 points scored and an average of 44.2 points per game.[1] He accomplished this without the benefit of a three-point line and despite the fact that NCAA rules prohibited him from playing on the varsity team as a freshman. Just wanted to throw my two cents worth into this argument if you are going to say the best that has ever played the game. I've seen them all play and never have I seen antone do the things that the Pistol did. No one and it all still stands today to prove it. CJ was great but not as great as he was. RL was great but not as great as he was. CJ was better than RL was history proves it. All this other stuff does not mean a hill of beans. Sorry RL got hurt at an early age or early stage but it all is an empty arguement.

Unfortunately for me, I only saw Pistol's college replays, and was only a pre-teen when he was in the NBA, when you were lucky to get anything on network TV once every Sunday other than the Lakers, Celtics, and if you were really lucky, the Sixers with Dr. J.

But, no one should really doubt what you say. I've seen the stats, and since, the replays. This discussion was really only about the forgotten C.J.

Then, it turned into the C.J. versus Randy Livingston thread.... which is the way it always goes.

But, then who has ever been like C.J.?

Jay Williams from Duke was the closest thing I ever saw to CJ (I wasnt around for PM). And FWIW I think CJ was better.

I'm not intimately familiar with Jay Williams. Didn't see him in person, and barely remember him as a player on TV. But, you just paid him a great complement.

thats b/c he got in a motorcycle accident and wrecked his career in like his second year in the NBA. But he was a hell of a PG at Duke

Yeah, I remember that much. What's become of him?

But, I'll still say, not close to C.J. Bear in mind, that even LSU has had true point guards that fit the mold more so than C.J., i.e. Ethan Martin or Derrick Taylor. As far as I know, though, no one scored like C.J. in the SEC except the Pistol.

We're making assumptions on Livingston from when he played 2A ball at Newman and trying to compare him to one of the greatest college basketball players of all-time for LSU.

We never really got to see the real Livingston here due to injury.

In AAU ball I'm told he got the better of Jason Kidd more times than not...that tells me something.

I am assuming you were born after 1970.

As great as CJ was, Pistol Pete was 10X the player and ball handlier.

Much like there is no compairing CJ to Livingston. CJ by a long shot
