tell her you are considering Florida and Florida State, which are both bigger schools than LSU, and both were rated as bigger "party" schools

well my mom being an LSU grad says if i decide to go to either FSU or UF i will have to find a way to pay my own tuition. . she still holds her grudges against those schools and the SEC football rivalries especially with UF.

You'll never make it in pre-med with crummy grammar skills.

This is twice you've implied FSU is in the SEC. It's actually in the the ACC, with Maryland, and has more of a sports rivalry with the Terps than with the Tigers.

And the word you're looking for is "faze" rather than "phase."

Edited to add that you might do a better job of convincing your folks about LSU if you were more careful in putting your arguments together than you are in constructing your posts. Just a thought. It would probably help you in your pre-med and med school career as well.

Here's your arguments to mom and dad:

1. Mom, dad, I want to be, and you want me to be, passionate and excited about college so that I will study hard and make it to Med school - LSU is a place where that can happen.

2. [Insert warm weather climate arguments]. Easier to be motivated to get to class if you don't have to fight snow, ice and freezing rain for 4-6 months of the school year.

3. LSU is part of a metropolitan area that has all the amenities needed, including an full service airport that can get you home quicker than living in the boonies of Auburn.

4. With your mom being an alum, I believe you get some tuition breaks on the out of state fees. I've heard of the "Golden Oaks" program which is basically TOPS scholarship for out of staters with excellent grades.

5. The special connection you'll have with your mom by attending the same university. It's a stretch, but parents are just sentimental enough to fall for it.

Good luck

Hootie's points are good ones. I didn't mention the scholarhip or tuition breaks, as I don't know the details. But those programs have been mentioned in discussions I've had with LSU reps.

On top of that, LSU has the resources to provide an absolutely first rate education in any field. The Honors College is a gem, and they would love to get more pre-meds.

Good luck.
