I admit I was wrong...this is not one of our more talented teams.

TLDR version: we are not more talented than 2017. We are however better coached.

Defense

We are not improved on the DL...we've taken a slight step back from last year.

LSU is thin at OLB, slightly better at ILB. The secondary is talented, but young and still developing.

Special Teams

The special teams are the one area we've improved on over last year, hands down. Two words: Cole Tracy. I like that our KO's are usually touchbacks, and the punting situation is very good. We could be better at KR and PR though.

Offense

On offense, Joe Burrow is not as good as I hoped he'd be. He can get better as he continues to mature and pick up the offense.

The WR's, while talented, are young and drop too many balls. Route running is improving, but not optimal yet.

I said before the season that RB would be a step back only because last year we had Derrius Guice. We've been spoiled at RB in the past. This is a very good, but not great group.

We still have no idea how good our OL can be. The good news is that just about all of them can play. Because they've had to due to injuries.

We might be better at TE, haven't seen enough to tell, and we're thin there.

Coaching

The best news of all for Tiger fans is that we have a coaching staff that knows how to and is willing to scheme around our deficiencies.

No more running into a loaded box on offense. No guards at tackles except by greatest need.

It looks like this staff will continue to recruit at areas of need. And hopefully has finally convinced top QB recruits that LSU is a viable option if they want to learn their position.

It's time to admit that Coach O knows what he's doing, and that he's assembled the best coaching staff LSU has had in years.

Facilities

There is reason for optimism. LSU football are again among the nation's best. The football operations center and Tiger Stadium have been upgraded nicely. Tiger Stadium has never looked better. And not just the stadium itself. The Nicholson Gateway improved the surrounding area immensely.

The Ops center will be amazing when finished.

And the new athletic dorm, where all LSU athletes stay as freshman and most as sophomores...might just be the best in the country. I'd be surprised if any other school offers a dorm, any dorm, with a grocery and restaurants as conveniently placed.

Again, to cut to the chase....this is not one of our better teams. It is however one of our better coached teams.

And that might be the most hopeful sign of all.

Burrow over Etling all day.....your analysis is not worth a frick. Btw, WR’s have been lights out. Jefferson, Chase, Marshall and Sullivan have excelled.

Actually it is.

We've discovered the talent in CEH, as well as several incredible receivers.

Burrow is a better overall QB than Etling.

Cole Tracy is self explanatory.

I think the team far and away is more talented. We have an insane amount if talent. Coaching is much better because Burrow can open up the offense now.

I disagree with you. We may not have a Guice type star but as a whole we are much more talented.

I agree about the dline, but if you are disappointed in burrow then I don’t know what to tell you. He’s not putting up heisman numbers but he’s the best player on the team by far

You must have had some unrealistic/Heisman expectations for burrow if you’re disappointed. Sure he’s not an all American but the kid just has that moxy. For the first time in a long time I feel good with the ball in an LSU qbs hands with the game on the line

And the secondary is still developing?? The secondary is full of SAVAGES (besides battle) that have been lights out other than a few big plays from Florida. The only thing I agree with you on is the d line

Agree 100%

Have you lost your mind? We will have multiple NFL draft picks with long careers but he won't be one of them. Now, I agree he may be most valuable on offense but that's a different story.

What the hell were you hoping for? The dude is a gamer and one of the best pre snap qb in the country.

This post literally has no point. It might have all sounded better in your head, but, trust me, this was stupid.

I actually agree with this, though I disagree with the thread title.

talent levels are comparable between the teams, and both are among our most talented teams.

First of all, Joe Burrow has that moxy, that toughness and he's aggressive. He's the best QB we've had around here in a long time.

The forward pass is back!! LOL! And gone are the days of playing "hide the Quarterback".

I disagree with your thoughts on our talent level.

Like always, there's a TON of talent on D!!

And Yes, the OLine is still a work-in-progress, but they've been good enough so far to beat 3 Top 10 teams.

This team is well-coached. You can't turn tempo up and down without being well coached.

Our offensive players seem to know where the sticks are and manage to get the ball across the 1st down marker. That's situational awareness and coaching.

Special Teams are rock solid. That's coaching.

This team is improving. That's coaching.

I'm proud of this team and our coaches. It's been an exciting season so far. They have exceeded my expectations.

You’re nuts! Not improved on the dline? In our losses to Miss State and Troy we were playing our true freshman - sometimes starting one of them. In fact, I believe this is the first time in ages that we have not had to rely on true freshmen in the dline rotation.

Also, Burrow’s running ability has improved the QB position. We’re worse at running back, better at WR, and better at LB. And most importantly, we are far better at place kicking, kickoffs and punting.

This team is much more talented than last year.

Oh, and you called our secondary young. We have two third year guys at corner, a second year guy at safety who is probably going to be first team All American, and a fourth year guy at the other safety. We use a first, a second, and a fourth year guy as our next three.

Based on your upvote to downvote ratio, I am going to spare myself the trouble of reading your novel. I did skip down to where you dont think Burrow is as good as you'd hoped he would be.

That's where I solidified my opinion that you dont know jack about the sport. Guy has legit only started 6 games ever and 3 of those have been against top 10 talent. You sir, are a joke.

What a waste of time and effort! It seems like the ramblings of a man with entirely to much to drink.
