According to the rant I would assume his responsibility as a former LSU athlete would be to help steer athletes to LSU

I don't think it hurts us to have him on LSU's side. But use of the term "steer" just because he played here is disingenuous.

I'm not trying to be difficult just looking for info and discussion. I know nothing more about RL except his name and that injuries sidelined his career. He seems like a great guy and I have nothing against him. I just kept hearing people say we have to hire him b/c he is a great recruiter but nothing to back that up but you have provided more info and I appreciate it as it appears you have background info which answers my questions. Thanks for the discussion.

Its a safe hire. Tubby for sure aint gonna do any worse than this past season, but the ceiling may not be much higher due to his age.

Maybe. But people are acting like 61 is on death's door step. Calipari was like 53. I work with folks that are 61 that I think will work for another 20 years.

I think the age is a bit overblown.

Id agree if we were an established program and he had been our coach for 5 years already. However walking into a rebuilding project at 61 is a little different than coaching an established program for another 5-10 years.. Not saying it cant be done but most 61 year olds arent in the mood for barn burning, shaking hands, kissing babies, and hanging nets from netless goals like someone getting their first major conference job in their late 30s or early 40s.
