I know ... we recruited him but I mean, was there anyone else that was out there that we were after? How highly rated was he? I don't follow recruiting now or back then.

Did we offer to anyone else and they didn't accept?

I'm not knocking the kid ... just wondering how/why we got him.

He was our 3rd choice at QB

Darron Thomas, Oregon's QB, was committed to us but then switched

DC Jefferson, who switched to TE at Rutgers, was the other QB we went after

Then JJ

Apparently Miles saw some thing in him that we haven't seen yet...

JJ's problem wasn't his talent when he was recruited. It is his development since he has been here. Blame the staff.

The starter at Oregon was committed to us that year, Derron Thomas. There were also 2 others but I can't remember their names. One signed with Rutgers and is now a TE. We also passed on Robert Griffin in that class.

Tyrell pryor, but I think it was just lip service. I figured he was headed to Penn state or Ohio state.

I watched him play in the 5A semifinal vs St. Pauls shortly after he committed. At Destrahan that year he had Tim Molton (former LSU), Darius Johnson (Tulsa) and Jherico Nelson (Arkansas) all in the backfield with him. All the dude had to do was wait for someone to break open and chuck it down the field. His playmakers were so much better than the competition they were always open. Now when it's not such an advantage and you have to read defense's and check off a couple of times, he can't do it. Never had to in high school. AND NO ONE HAS TAUGHT HIM IN COLLEGE!!!! I'm not knocking him either. Hell i cant do it but that's what it is.

Package deal with Tim Molton. Jefferson looked like a generic version of Jamarcus Russell at Destrahan. Big arm (not quite JR, but pretty good) tall, pocket passer. Got a recruiting bump after his Sr season, but I seriously never thought the kid would see the field until maybe his senior year. It was supposed to be two years of RP, two years of Lee and a year of JJ.

How dumb is Ryan Perriloux?!?! That idiot has the intellect of a pickle!
