How about a 6 team playoff ?

4 Conf. Champions - selected by the committee. Doesn't matter which conf.'s, just the top 4. Then 2 at-large teams selected by the committee. The teams would be seeded, then #1 and #2 would have a bye the first weekend. #3 vs. #6 and #4 vs. #5 with the games being played at the higher seeds home. Second weekend #1 gets lowest remaining seed and #2 gets the other. Again, higher seed, home. Then NC would be played at one of the 4 existing BCS bowl sites, and maybe add Jerry's world to that mix so it would be a 5 yr. rotation. This would keep regular season and conf. championship games relevant. Or should do a better job than what the BCS did last season.

That would mean you would have to win your conference to be national champion. Bama says, no thanks.

How about an 8 team playoff?

Just do like basketball. 68 teams

No you don't have to win your conf. U could still get an at-large.

However many teams it is whether it be 4,6, or 8 if a selection committee is involved, it will be a complete disaster.

Well unfortunately a selection comm. is coming with the new playoff system regardless of the amount of teams. That's a given. Wouldn't be much more, if any, of a disaster than what is in place right now.

The BCS is a complete disaster. Any playoffs are instantly better. 6 teams isn't bad, but something tells me that future playoffs will involve only the powers of 2 (i.e. 4, 8, 16) with respect to the number of participants.

I think using the current formula and taking the top 4 ranked teams is the best option.

Playoff is coming, no doubt. But hopefully they realize the more teams in, the less every Reg. season game remains meaningful. And def. Conf. Champ. games get less meaningful. At least with 6, u still want to play for that bye. U want to be #1 or #2. Home field and bye.

Oh so Bama gets that auto at large bid, yeah they're back on board.

But as it turns out, the BCS negated both of those things. Could playoffs diminish the regular season & Conference Championships any more than last season?

I've said it before and I will say it again, regardless of whether you are talking about a 4, 6 or 8 team playoff, (or the current system...) if you don't win your conference you do not belong in the playoff.
However, the current BCS system states their goal is that the "best" teams should play in the crystal ball game and you can certainly argue that Bama was better than many of the other teams that won their conference.
I ultimately think we will eventually find ourselves with an 8 team playoff when the dust settles. But that could still be a few years down the road...

How about a 4 team playoff?
The only change I would make would be just to say that no more than 2 teams from any conference can make it.
An 8 team playoff is just going to mean they have to invite the champion of each BCS conference that blows. You will have 3 loss teams like Clemson getting in over the 1 loss second place team in a better conference than the ACC. I don't like it. Going to 8 is a bad idea.
