True. I'm from Boston and will tell you with no hesitation there is far more prejudice up there than what I've observed in the south.

This is true. I grew up in Shreveport and Baton Rouge but worked in a factory outside of Boston (Canton) one summer between academic years at Vanderbilt and LSU (the whole story is too long.) I can tell you I was shocked at the racial slurs and the hate against blacks I ran into up there. It was nothing I had ever run into in Louisiana. A lot of it, I think, is we all have to live together down here, raise kids together and get along. Where I lived in Norwood, Mass., there were 25,000 people and only 9 blacks in town.

Lora Hinton

Coached me in little league football and basketball for a few years. Great guy.

It's too bad Lora Hinton was never really that outstanding as far as his LSU career on the field was concerned. I think he may have actually been considered coming out of high school a slightly better prospect than Mike Williams, though they played different positions.

Did he have injury problems or what and did he play on the LSU varsity all three years? It seems like when he signed, freshmen were not eligible for the varsity.

But Williams was outstanding & as someone else posted, he does not get nearly enough credit for being one of the better DB's LSU has produced. I recall several years ago going to DiNardo's Restaurant in BR. Mike Williams & Gerry DiNardo were in the same picture of All-American players that I saw there.

Went & read the linked article & noticed that Hinton did have knee problems that plagued him throughout this LSU career--so answered my own question.

Still, Williams & Hinton were true pioneers for LSU!
