Question, in LA high school football say it’s 2nd or 3rd down & goal from the 16. Pass thrown to WR in end zone. Pass interference called on DB. They moved the ball half the distance to goal line which was the 8. Is it not an automatic 1st down with the PI? Would it still be 3rd & goal from 8, no automatic 1st down? I was confused. TIA

Not automatic first, only roughing QB kicker holder or snapper is automatic first in HS

Louisiana high school football has some dumbass rules. One being the no automatic first down on defensive PI. Another being no such thing as “uncatchable pass”. Qb can literally throw the ball in the stands and if a DB touches a receiver the wrong way with the ball in the air, the refs can penalize it.

Louisiana high schools get their rules from the National Federation of High Schools.

These aren’t Louisiana specific rules.

IMO, a PI in the end zone should no doubt be a 1st down. So if db gets smoked, he can tackle WR in end zone & not only save a TD but doesn’t even give up the 1st down. That’s some really stupid shite

48 states use NFHS rules and individual states can make adjustments...

NCAA football rules are only used in Massachusetts and Texas. Texas does use the wider goalposts like NFHS. Kickoffs in Texas are from the 40 instead of the 35.

Years ago, Louisiana used NCAA rules and we had a game in Mississippi. I started barking at the ref about the clock and he told me, "Son, we play NFHS rules here in Mississippi. If you don't like it, pack up and go back to Louisiana." We won that game 22-21. They came to us the next year and we won 56-0...
