I think the whole "Ben" scenario weakened Jone's image as a coach. Looking back, it appears Ben was only there because he had to be. I saw very little effort from him when he was in the LSU games. I think this lack of effort and bad attitude affected the team negatively and JJ has never recovered as a coach. I also think Ben will be a very, very good NBA player. A "great NBA player", "a legend", IMO that will NEVER happen. Every player in the NBA has great skills but the truly great ones, Magic, Jordan, Bird, etc. have a burning desire to excel and be great. I don't see that burning desire from Ben.

Bob Petit was the most talented basketball player to enter LSU.

Pete Maravich was the most talented basketball player to enter LSU.

Those sentences can be defended. Petit led LSU to the SEC championship twice.
He led the SEC in scoring at 25 a game his first season, soph year. He averaged 30 one year. Only Pete had more and Petit averaged 13 rebounds a game too.

Ben Simmons could not hold Petit's jockstrap.
It remains to be seen if Simmons is a star in the NBA. He can't shoot.
He can pass, drive and rebound.

Petit led the St Louis Hawks to the 1958 NBA title.
