Guilbeau’s first professional writing position was as a staff writer for Tiger Rag in 1983. He then went on to cover Alabama for the Montgomery Advertiser (1985-87) before returning to Louisiana to cover LSU for the Alexandria Town Talk (1987-93).
He returned to the Heart of Dixie in 1994 and covered Auburn for the Mobile Press-Register until 1998, when came to Baton Rouge as a staff writer for The Advocate. In 2004, Guilbeau was hired as the LSU beat writer for Gannett.
