not sure , but I have no idea why this has been called the greatest game ever! I guess they called it that back then before anything exciting actually happen!

Interesting question. I did a quick search and didn't see any.

Y.A. Tittle started off his career with the Colts and ended it with the Giants but in 1958 he played for the 49ers.

I thought he played for the 49ers from 50 to 60 and then was traded to the Giants?

No, a couple of Ole Miss players on the Gaints, but no Tigers on either team:

So when did exciting things actually begin to happen?

This is the game that brought pro football to the attention of the public.

Until then, few people even knew about it.

I think the overtime aspect of the game is what caused it to be picked up by the media who referred to it as 'sudden death'

It was all over the news for quite a while back then. I know I became hooked on the pro version by that game.

People talked about Alan "the Horse" Amache afterwards. I think he even went to Hollywood to try being a movie star - hm maybe I am thinking of some other star who did that.

The game itself was pretty tame by modern standards, but at the time, it was an exciting diversion at a slow time of the year.

I still think the overtime aspect is what caused it to become so revered. It certainly whetted the nation's appetite for the professional game.

Before that time, most pro players had regular jobs they had to go to on Monday mornings. After that they began getting enough money to just play football.

Yeah - I have seen the "highlights" played a few times today. I cannot believe I was excited by that stuff fifty years ago.

I know it was on a wet field, but damn they look slow.
