I really believe Jacoby Jones will be on campus come August. Eades is an interesting topic of conversation. The guy has been clocked at 94-96 before his injurt. The recovery and rehabilitation seems to be going very well. Supposedly the Colorado Rockies who drafted him like him a lot. He just might get the number he is looking for what I am told is at least 7 figures. He also swings a really good bat, but he could end up on LSU's campus. Gausman was sitting at 92 mph at a pre-draft workout in Houston. That sounds promising for proffesional teams considering he was said to have been down to 88 mph during his high school season. Also showed a great changeup in that showcase as well...another pitch added to his repetoire. If Los Angeles sees enough in Gausman which they could; I think Gausman could be headed to L.A. I think that LSU fans should really be hoping to keep Eades and Gausman. These are two guys that could immediately come in and contribute to the tigers. I believe Jones is hit or miss. He has great athletic ability, but that can only take you so far in this game. Baseball will expose your weaknesses, but if Jones gets dedicated and commited he could turn out to be a good player for the tigers as well.

There is NO way Jones or Eades get an offer over 1.2 million in the 19th round. This is exactly what the MLB is trying to restrict and if for some unknown loophole reason that does happen...I don't even.

I can definently see Gausman with an offer of over a million for a 6th round pick but the other two...highly highly unlikely. I remember seeing the Angels sign a top 10 highschool pitcher a couple years back in the 18th round for something like 1.08 million, which is what helped lead to the "slot system".

The slotting system is more of a suggestion than anything. There are a handful of teams that completely ignore it such as the Red Sox, Yankees, and Tigers.

Well it's supposed to be well ahead of the MLB August 15th deadline. Hopefully it's next week.

Not sure why people are saying Jones is hit or miss. The only reason he wasn't a top 3 rounder or maybe even a first rounder was because he has a full scholarship to LSU and told all the teams it would take 2 million to get him away.

I think if he comes to LSU he starts right away and becomes a star.

I haven't really heard many people say he's hit or miss. Jones was a top 50 highschool player in the nation the entire season. The fact that he did fall all the way to round 19 is purely because of signability.

If we lose someone to the draft, we should not have to look to far!

if jones ends up on campus, we could be in serious trouble

you do realize that mainieri offered him a FULL scholarship, right?

I was responding to bigleaguer23 who said he thinks Jones is hit or miss. I think Jones will be a star.

Also why would a full scholly mean were in trouble? It's rare but it does happen.

Not exactly, guys such as Gibbs, Dean, Ranaudo, Ross, Landry, etc... who held up pretty good chuncks of scholarship will be spread out to more players.(Incoming class)

That's an awesome attitude, and at the same time, is really boring and not worth posting.

He's recruiting them to play both ways. LSU hasn't recently had a "true" two way player such as Stephen Head or Michael Aubrey. I think the closet we've seen in the past few years has been Chad Jones...maybe Will Harris.

Koziol, Eades, Broussard all had two way roles in highschool.

Going back to your question Mainieri is not against using a player as a fielder/pitcher the same way Skip did.
