I doubt he saw it, or maybe he did, while on the ground at mid-field. If he did see it from there and took it as a "clock it" or "spike it", he would not have been repeatedly asking the sidelines what to do when under center.

I doubt Miles even knew the ref had made a ruling. He was toocaught up in the moment, IMO and what I bolded in your comment.
