Every game I wonder how good this team could have been with Calvin Godfrey

Losing Godfrey due to grades before the season even started really hurt. With Grodfrey this is a bubble NCAA tourney team.
PG: Hickey, Collins (Just for a breather)
SG: Carmouche, Stringer, Morgan
SF:Morgan, Coleman, Hammink
PF: Godfrey, Coleman, Courtney or Ludwig for depth
C: O'Bryant, ADP

For those that dont know Coleman and Godfrey played on the same JUCO team, and while Godfrey has been in trouble a lot, would have been the teams leading rebounder and an eraser. This is why I dont blame CJJ, winning any SEC game with only one true SEC caliber postt player is damn near impossible. Can almost gurantee you LSU is 5-1 in SEC and only one loss to Boise in non-conference.

If we would've had Odoh and Godfrey eligible we'd be 5-1 or 4-2 in the SEC right now

It's always a roll of the dice with these transfers, and especially Godfrey given his baggage.

For me CJJ doesn't get a pass here. South Carolina, Georgia and Auburn aren't oozing with inside presence...unless you want to call the big white kid from Auburn a force.

Those are manageable games even given our present state of the union and I think expecting two wins in that stretch is not at all unreasonable.

And seeing the way we played yesterday even convinced me more of that fact.

Let's hope we can play more the way we played yesterday in the more winnable games we have down the stretch.

I think the NIT was a reasonable goal going into the season and it's now a real long-shot given the missed opportunities we let go by.

But excited at the prospect of continuing this type of play, rather than that of the early SEC season.

Geaux Tigers!!

A guy we had signed as a transfer who had been kicked off of the Iowa St. team for numerous team violations.

I don't think he was any great shakes but I think he was a big body who could have eaten some rebounds and that's something that would really help us.

Wish we could have gotten someone similar who was less of a risk but there wasn't alot of time, I'll give the staff that.

Transfers generally don't pan out, but the ISU boards were pretty bummed he was gone. Said he oozed talent. The only thing this LSU team is sorely missing is another post player to play with JOB. Godfrey would have been it.

I only talked to one Iowa St. fan about him, but she was a pretty big fan and she wasn't all that bummed out. More trouble than he was worth she said. In that respect I'm kinda glad it didn't work out.

Wonder if there was any out there that could have gotten or almost signed that could have given us some boards but with less risk?

i remember the transfer market was pretty bare as far as post players. most of the hs guys had already signed. there was that kid barnett harris from pa. but he seems like a project guy similar to freshman/sophomore chris johnson.

there was a story that godfrey was going to enroll at southern, wonder if that ever came to fruition.

I guess that's why we went MS. State there and took a big chance. I don't think we'll need to do that down the line but it was obvious before and is even more obvious now how much one more guy to just board and defend a little would help us.

Especially as down as the SEC is. Hell man, we IMHO should be 3-3 right now in conference even without him.

After the past 2 games i think LSU is playing their best ball. Of course they lost to UK but still the way the responded to down 15, JOB coming around, and Hickey playing lights out we might beat a few more teams and will be exciting to watch. We have the tools to make the NIT and a schedule to help us get some better wins IMO.

Not saying I totally disagree but the same could be said for the other teams we play as well. It would've been nice to find out though.

True, but for every Hamilton you have a Terry Martin, Courtney Trask, Dameon Mason, etc...

I agree. Transfers are not a long term solution, but I think CJJ had to roll the dice in this case.

Now he had the benefit of a good some good recruiting circumstances this year in that Baton Rouge had two very highly rated recruits this year and another highly recruited kid whose brother played football at LSU.

He also has an in for future quality recruits with his son playing at U-High.

So he won't have to roll the dice down the road and he and his staff are good enough recruiters to get the kids we should get in here.

I think we'll get the talent in here in the years to come. Let's see what Johnny can do with them.

No doubt about it. I'm all for Juco's and to a degree transfers. High risk - high reward sort of thing.

A prime example of this is Iowa State with Fred Hoiberg. They came from the depths of college hoops to making the 2nd round of the tourney in year 1. I have all the faith in the world in Johnny Jones and have been one of the very few that was on board Day 1 of the hire.
