Its the best match up for lsu we were best against the run and had a horific pass d.

GA-Tech only threw the ball 19 times versus GA.

They are a poor passing team!

I will root for every SEC team, I promise you Ole Miss will beat overated TT.

That is true...the pass has struggled mainly due to the incredible youth on offense as mentioned in an earlier thread...only 2 juniors and no seniors on offense.

Also...when you have success on the ground...why throw it. There are running plays that spread a defense much like pass plays.

You are right...we definitely need to work on the passing game and Coach Johnson said the run and shoot stuff he ran at Hawaii will start being installed this spring.

Meanwhile we are riding our starting RB's:

BB Jon Dwyer averages 7.0 ypc on 190 carries.
AB Roddy Jones averages 9.1 ypc on 72 carries.
AB Lucas Cox averages 8.2 ypc on 25 carries.

It is kind of surprising that we have averaged 5.6 ypc as a rushing offense while facing 8 in the box all year long. Its a head scratcher...everyone knows we are going to run it.

Not really.

It is more than just having "8 in the box" to stop a flexbone or any triple option type scheme.

Teams don't see it enough. It is hard to coach against it from a Sunday to a Friday. It is so out of the mainstream of college football offensives it throws a wrench in a defensive game plan.

The o-line dives at your knees with low blocks, different angles are created and there is so much misdirection and such. Plus, GaTech has the people to run it.

To defend against it requires discipline and/or really good defenders.

True...very different. The LB's, DE's, and safeties have to be on their game...and the CB's and DT's almost have to let themselves be taken out.
I will say the cut blocking is not as predominant as you would see at Navy. We started out that way this year, but Gailey's pass protection built line was diving at air...whiffing a lot because the DE's were too quick. For teh last few games of the year he changed a lot of the blocking technique for our OT's to a more traditional style...just moving the DE out of the play. That is one thing I have noticed about Paul Johnson...he is smart, but not so cocky that he is unwilling to change. How many times do we see coaches these days that are so arrogant about "their system" that they are unwilling to change their philosophy?...then they stumble.
btw, I see a lot of cut blocking when I watch Florida, Wake Forest, and others in the SEC and ACC. It is just not talked about.

Actually GT only threw the ball 6 times. GT only completed one of those for 19 yards.

but heck if we could score 45 points and a win with only one completed pass, sign me up

I don't understand why the Outback Bowl would take USCe over LSU. I know that they traditionally take the SEC east team, but LSU is kind of the higher seed.

Is the Chik-Fil-A bowl required to take LSU? If I were them, I would take Vandy over LSU and probably sell more tickets. I can't imagine that LSU will sell its allocation of tickets. I'm pretty sure I heard that when we played Miami there were a bunch of empty seats.

we'll stop the triple option... just not the spread with premier speed or a great RB like Moreno

Tech doesn't have the athletes to pose those problems... as a matter of fact, really no team in the ACC does

To beat Georgia Tech they have to beat themselves. LSU must force turnovers while also not turning the ball over themselves.

Lordy, lordy, as bad as this match up seems right now, we dodged a big, big bullet by not getting Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl.
