Dude is not better than Tyrann. If he was, Tyrann would be on the bench.

TM was a playmaker more than a consistent player. He can be replaced.

LSU will lose more hype than it will actual field presence IMO. There is plenty of talent lined up to take his place

We are throwing some inexperienced guys out there to play and lets hope one or two of them can hold up to the pressure and the grind of the SEC.

There are probably 3-4 games in question for LSU this season and none are for another couple of months. LSU has plenty of time to develop suitable talent on the field.

I highly doubt this action came as a shock to Les Miles and he has been prepping people since the start of fall camp.

That's just dumb. Who led LSU in tackles last year? Who led LSU in punt coverage last year? Who led LSU in punt returns last year? Who caused the Bama quarterback to crumble and dive into the middle of the LSU interior rush every time he blitzed from the outside in Tuscaloosa?

It will take 3 guys to try and replace Mathieu's production ON THE FIELD.

Exactly.

I don't know why all these posters are downplaying his value. Have they watched the Tigers the last two years?

This guy was all over the field.

Mathieu wasn't hype. Far from it, he was one of the best football players in college. He contributed in so many ways. And all that bs about him not being able to cover is just that...bs.

We will still be very good. No question about it. And we still have an excellent shot at the MNC. But this is a huge loss.

It might be possible to figure out the replacements for each of those positions
- having another player be in the nickel
- punt coverage
- punt return

What might not be easily replaced are the intangibles - bravado and confidence that he brought and lent to the team by virtue of being all 3 rolled into a single package.

He did have a knack for following the ball and being in the middle of almost each play and that is not something that you can teach or expect the three separate replacements to have as well.

Still - given that we have to have a loss of a player , it is just as well that it is at a position that we can depend on Chavis to camouflage and minimize the liability.
