They are insulated from the rest of the sporting world (except for the St. Louis Cardinals which they claim) and honestly do not know how to act. When they are bad, they are fairly quiet. When they are winning, there is no more of an obnoxious and ignorant fan base in the country.

it could have been isolated. but i personally do not taunt other fans after a "W". think that its pitiful.

im also not someone to ask for it like some LSU fans.

my opinion is that it seemed like they were beating there arch-rival nemesis.

you can mess with people, but most of them were just classless IMO.

we did hang with some decent people tailgating next to us and a few in the bar after the game. that was about it for me.

Arkansas is 10-2 with a chance to play in their 1st sugar bowl. All these guys will come out and talk shite for a few weeks and then go away. Let them have their fun, we have been there a few times before.

I also think for Little Rock games you draw a completely different crowd from a socioeconomic standpoint compared to games in Fayetteville.

I don't condone any poor sportsmanship, because

A. It's just a game, and
B. The players are the ones with the bragging rights, and even they respect one another.

But it's silly for an LSU fan to complain about other fans. LSU boasts some of the world's best tailgaters and some of the worst, most obnoxious fans ever.
It's also really ignorant to say that Arky doesn't deserve respect. They have a rich tradition of college football and basketball, and yeah, they may not have a pro team to get excited about (and therefore, they go crazy over their college teams), but they do have passion, and no one should deny them that. Good season Arky. Now go beat the hell out tOSU in Nawlins.

Good point. Bear Bryant used to tell his players, "When you get in the endzone, act like you've been there before." When LSU wins I think most LSU fans at least have a little humility and class about it (i.e. good sportsmanship). Probably because we've been there before. (OK, actually, a lot this past decade) From Don's account, it sounds like some of the Hog fans in L.R. were acting as if the 1980 USA hockey team beat the Russians again. lol

From what I recall you are a solid poster. I hope everyone realizes there was no racial undercurrent to my post, rather an observation in regards to the difference in types of fans that the two venues (Little Rock vs. Fayetteville) draw.

Having a professional team to support or not is only a small mitigating factor. Look how many LSU fans dislike the Saints. Think back to 2005 and how many Tiger fans on this board bitched long and loud about the Saints using Tiger Stadium.

It's not as crucial to a fanbase's reaction as some may think. Initiating trash talk is just beyond ridiculous and stupid, which is why I'd not likely do it, ever, except maybe a playful Tiger Bait. Other than that, no way. But to try not to respond to it, that's much more difficult.

I'm surprised Ark fans don't just kill each other

the only 2 sets of fans I saw were polar opposites:

Rednecks and Eminem Look-Alikes

No, I gotcha.

While Little Rock is more demographically similar to other southern cities, and NWA is practically midwestern "socioeconomically", it has little to do with the gameday atmospheres being different.

Little Rock games are attended by a lot of small town, southern and eastern Arkansas people who never make the trip to campus.

Fayetteville is a real college town in a relatively young, nouveau riche metro. The fans in Fayetteville are heavier on recent alums, retired alums, and young professionals from somewhere else. There are small town rednecks mixed in, but they aren't the majority in Fayetteville. In Little Rock, they are.

The golf course is a big redneck party.

In Fayetteville, tailgating is more corporate, and there are 130 something luxury boxes. That influences the difference in atmospheres a lot. Fayetteville crowds are pretty self-policing when it comes to bad behavior, whereas Little Rock is a free-for-all.

I went with the band. Fans were courteous for the most part.

...Until we lined up to march in, and one guy called us a bunch of "butt-fricking coonasses" that needed to go back to Louisiana.

Also, when I was studying in the lobby of our hotel, a fan came up to me and said "I didn't think anyone actually learned at LSU."

Classless.

"Oh and that stadium announcer leading the first down cheer"

I remember when Craig O'Neil (Radio/TV personality in LR) started that. Funny guy but the Razorbacks let him go cause he worked for a station that competed against their ASRN channel. Let him go but kept his cheer.

Now, every high school in Ark does the exact same thing at their home games.

That started back in 1998. I know Boise State got it from us and spread it to whatever crap conference they are in.

The "First Down...OLE MISS!" is a bastardization of it, as well as a few others around the league.

I think we were the first or one of the first to do that. Its annoying as hell, which is why we keep doing it.

There are harsh fans everywhere, but I agree with your comments. I went the year of the Bluegrass Miracle and basically the same thing happened to us. Matt Jones was horrible all day and throws up a pass that they catch for a touchdown and a win. With the loss, we were out of the SECCG and they were in. My innocent mother was walking through the golf course to our car and she was cursed. She was just there to watch the game. Words got a little heated from there if you know what I mean

I was at this game also in 2002 I think it was. I had a great time until leaving the stadium. I was terrified for my life. I had people running up to me and screaming FU and all kinds of stuff, had beer thrown on me. It's the worst experience I've ever had after any football game. I will never return to that dump of a stadium or be around those crazy hillbillies. The name Hogs fits their fan base perfectly.

I'd also like to point out that I'm the LSU fan who tells other drunk LSU fans who are getting out of line to shut up. I've only had to do that once. I did not have one Hog fan approach me apologizing for their behavior.
