I didn't believe it either, but I had no idea how many pitches Bouman had thrown at that point.

CPM definitely screwed this one up. Bouman, it's hard to say. They've been working him up, but he's normally good for about 5 innings. Normally, I would say it was time to pull him, but he still looked good and his pitch count was low. Pulling him for McCune was very questionable.

McCune has to be on a short leash. He has pitched well in some clutch situations, but he has also blown some big games. It seems he either has it or he doesn't. Tonight, he didn't and it cost them the game.

It also bothered me that he had nobody warming in the bullpen after he put Broussard in. Broussard has shown that he can give you a few good innings, but if he had started to struggle (which he did), or if the game had gone longer, he didn't have anyone ready to go.

PM is a solid guy just like Miles...but for whatever reason, the just seem to have these moments of complete ignorance in important situations....sometimes they get by, and other times the get exposed. But even when they get by, it still doesn't change the fact that they shite the bed.

Tonight, PM completely went brain dead. This isn't Monday morning qb type thinking. This mistake was so damn easy to see...before, during, and after the moves. Don't take out someone who is not in trouble...HE WAS GIVING HOUSTON FITS!
IF you are dumb enough to pull him, don't leave the next guy in after he struggles in the 7th and let's em get loaded in the 8th...and STILL leave him in to pitch!

Seriously, every single coach in America from high school to the pros would not have pitched this game like that.

PM completely gave Houston everything they needed to be successful.

ps...the batters almost swinging out of their cleats ws confusing as well....take some pitches for fricks sake!

Pitch count. No matter how well Cartwright does tonight he will get pulled after the 4th, 5th or 6th inning. There are only two guys on the team that CPM allows to pitch over 100 pitches, Nola and Poche.

Yes. This is only his 3rd start coming back from his injury. Low 60s was the pitch count.

Would it be possible for Skip to sit in the dugout with him and advise him? I mean you know he is already gonna be at the game and we all know that skip is gonna make the correct decision.

I'm really not sure what is so hard to understand here.

The kid had thrown 63 pitches and gone 6 shutout innings. I'm sure that was more than PM was hoping for at the start of the night. With it being a 1 run game it was important to get him out there before he started to tire and give up some big hits. A big hit or two and LSU could have fallen behind. Taking him out was not a bad decision. McCune rolled through the 7th inning. My guess would be that McCune would not have pitched the 8th inning had LSU not scored those 3 runs. Once they scored those runs I guess PM thought he could run McCune out there for the 8th. That was the worst decision, not yanking Bouman after 63 pitches.

Bouman was pulled for the same reason that LSU fans believe McCune should have been pulled in the 8th.

Honestly, Bouman wasn't fooling anyone, the LSU defense was making some great plays. You take him out before he gets figured out. I fully expected Bouman to get pulled after 6 scoreless and I think it was the right decision.

McCune should have been done after his 7th inning. Should have gone to Bugg or Fury there. That is where I am scratching my head.

I must not have been watching the same game. I only saw a couple balls hit hard off of Bouman between the 4-6. He was getting a bunch of weak popups. Hale made a great play on a ball hit in the 5th I believe and there was a single from the lefty on the ground ball to right field, but those were pretty much the only hard hit balls from the 4-6 innings. He got pulled because he was on a pitch count and LSU only had a 1 run lead.

Was anybody up to hear Paul address his thought process after the game? He may throw a guy or 2 under the bus, but he is usually extremely honest and forthcoming.

Bouman was getting 0 balls past hitters. I like Bouman for what he does, but I think it was the right move to get him out before things got choppy for him.

0 strikeouts in 6 innings. LSU's defense was making some spectacular plays.

In no way am I trying to take away what Bouman did, because he played very well, but the plan was always to hope Bouman could give you 5-6 decent innings then turn it over to the pen.

He did more than fine. I simply think it was his time to exit the game. Has he pitched more than 6 innings all year?
