Maybe getting on some of the players for missing assignments, maybe get a better feel for what's happening with his defense

Don't know if that is his style, but it may be a good idea for a change of pace with this defense...

whit this young of a defense, I'd prefer he be on the sidelines. Getting on guys as soon as they busted a play and chewing them out for it himself I think would be more effective than some assistant... but if he thinks its best for him to be up in the booth then I'll defer to his judgement.

anyway, the D stepped up in the 2nd half and the blowout was nice!

Chavis has been an elite defensive coordinator in the SEC for longer than most LSU students have been alive. My instinct is to let him do whatever the F he wants.

The problems with this defense run much deeper than simply needing a 56 year-old native american man's addition to the sideline.

No. You can't see what either side is doing.

That's another problem with Welter being the "leader" of the defense.

Welter to rest of D: "Get off your blocks and stop missing tackles! "

Rest of D: " "

No. He can ream their arss out with his headphone set after the play and at halftime. But he can see their mistakes better from the press box and with his availability to instant replays.

This is not high school
He needs the vision of the field. He has staff to handle the sidelines. Maybe he needs to "Communicate chief style" with some of his staff

The old yelling at players is helpful myth.

well said sir. also, chavis is known for his adjustments (not just at the half). i firmly believe his being in the press box enables a much better vision and gives him more time to make adjustments since he doesn't have to waste time and energy chewing a players arse out.

arse chewings are often merely stress relief for the chewer; the chewer knows he fricked up and also knows his coach will address it with him later. people with brains do not respond well to pubic arse chewing.

I think he can get a pretty good feel of what's happening to the defense from the box

Well if he does it, then that must be the reason he is so successful. Nothing to do with being the best recruiter in the game.

no, keep the process intact. Make the players adjust to the process...

I don't THINK, I KNOW he should be wherever HE thinks he can do the best job. This ain't his first rodeo. No one should give a frick what anyone else thinks, I know he certainly doesn't.

Chief upstairs on the field doesn't matter LSU tackling is the worst I can remember. They need to see if anybody can tackle, they need to have a tryout on campus for anybody that can tackle and give him a uniform.
